Job summary

Covenant Health EMS is seeking a Mechanic Technician for full-time, varied shifts to support emergency medical services operations in Tennessee. The role involves operating emergency medical apparatus, maintaining equipment and vehicles, and documenting activities with accuracy and confidentiality.

Ideal candidates may have diesel/mechanic experience; a high school diploma or GED is preferred. Tennessee driver’s license with proper endorsements and insurance are required.

  • Previous experience as a diesel/mechanic is preferred but not required.
  • Valid Tennessee driver’s license Class D with an “F” endorsement for up to 14 passenger vehicles, OR Class A/B/C with “P” endorsement for 15 passenger vehicles, plus state minimum insurance coverage.

Mechanic Technician

Full Time, 80 Hours Per Pay Period, Varied Shifts

Emergency Medical Services Overview:

Covenant Health Emergency Medical Services (EMS) ensures rapid response with specially trained personnel and a fleet of vehicles that are equipped with cutting‑edge technology. The Covenant Health EMS team improves patient care and outcomes, supports post‑discharge planning, and enhances community engagement. Working closely with all Covenant medical centers as well as several non‑Covenant facilities, our EMS team ensures that advanced‑level transport options are available when needed.

Position Summary:

Demonstrates and executes the acquired skills and knowledge for being a mechanic technician and operating emergency medical apparatus, equipment and vehicles. Documents all related activities by completing predetermined forms/reports and maintaining all information in a confidential manner.

Responsibilities
  • Inventories and restock supplies.
  • Keeps supervisor and assistance informed of all problems.
  • Observes and applies uniform code.
  • Participates in keeping working area neat and clean.
  • Participates in keeping ambulance clean at all times.
  • Reports mechanical problems promptly to supervisor.
  • Demonstrates a positive and professional attitude toward co‑workers and management.
  • Gains confidence from visitors and staff members by performing and communicating in a highly professional manner at all times.
  • Respect the rights, property and privacy of others.
  • Work at establishing a good rapport and professional working relationship with all departmental personnel and projects a positive image of the department/service at other medical facilities.
  • Function in a calm manner during emergency situations.
  • Always documents and writes using clear and concise information. Complete documentation and paperwork in a time manner.
  • Demonstrates an ability to independently solve problems in a creative manner.
  • Exercises independent judgment in times of need.
  • Performs all duties in an independent manner with little or no supervision.
  • Rotates shifts as required including weekend and holidays.
  • Always interacts in a professional manner with outside agencies (Police, Fire, 911, etc).
  • Local travel required.
  • Follows policies, procedures, and safety standards. Completes required education assignments annually. Works toward achieving goals and objectives, and participates in quality improvement initiatives as requested.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Minimum Education:

None specified; will accept any combination of formal education and/or prior work experience sufficient to demonstrate possession of the knowledge, skill and ability needed to perform the essential tasks of the job, typically such as would be equivalent to a high school diploma or GED. Preference may be given to individuals possessing a HS diploma or GED.

Minimum Experience:

Previous experience as a diesel/mechanic preferred, but not required.

Licensure Requirement:

Employee must have a valid Tennessee driver’s license Class D with an “F” endorsement for up to 14 passenger vehicles, OR a Class “A”, “B”, or “C” with “P” endorsement for 15 passenger vehicles, depending on the driving needs of the facility. Employee must have state mandated minimum insurance coverage. Driving record must meet Covenant Health minimum standards at the date of hire and throughout employment tenure.
