Hourly Rate

Hourly Rate: $42.44

Position Summary

Must ensure that work is performed in a safe manner with adherence to company policy. Responsible for coordinating, managing, and evaluating work required for new construction to produce timely, profitable results, and to satisfy the customer. The Lead must be self‑disciplined, resourceful, and willing to accept responsibility for the project and the crew assigned to them.

Essential Duties And Major Responsibilities
  • Is responsible for, commits to, practices, and verbalizes the company’s safety policies regardless of the chain of command in the company.
  • Takes responsibility for the safety of each crew member at Vigor Fab.
  • Ensures that safety is above all else the Lead’s first responsibility.
  • Maintains and communicates a positive consistent attitude to provide motivation to crew members. Understands the importance of giving both positive and negative feedback to Production management. Demonstrates the ability to give both positive reinforcement to Team members and verbal and written counseling when appropriate.
  • Reviews Job Hazards Analysis based on the day’s work. Ensures the JHA is conveyed to any crew members before beginning work.
  • Clearly communicates the plan and expectations to crew members. Understands the entire plan for the shop or asks questions to comprehend the scope of work.
  • Commits to and communicates the plan of the week to the crew. Follows up with the crew throughout the day and evaluates their production performance and issues.
  • Provides feedback to the Supervisor on shop’s performance by the weekly efficiency production report and evaluates percentage completion of the schedule’s plan of the week.
  • Determines and provides necessary tools, materials, and information to crew so they may successfully execute the plan of the day. Tools, materials, and information that are not available shall be brought to the attention of their Supervisor immediately for resolution.
  • May be called upon to record and forward timesheets before the end of the day.
  • Meets with Production Management daily to receive verbal and written instructions. Attends Production meetings when scheduled with updates to the Plan of the Week.
  • May be responsible for managing crew members with different personalities, backgrounds, and work disciplines. Trains crew members in order to ensure each individual is following the Vigor Code and is producing their work according to Vigor Fab production standards.
Education And/Or Experience
  • Journey level experience as an Industrial Laborer with a concentration of recent experience in a shipyard type environment.
  • A minimum of three years’ experience as a Laborer Supervisor in an industrial environment.
  • Must demonstrate an adept ability to effectively lead the work of others.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Knowledge of marine‑related equipment, ship repair and construction techniques; sequencing of ship repair activities; shipyard safety practices; complex mathematical principles as applied to shipping activities.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers and employees; act as a leader and be recognized as such by others, read, understand and apply ship repair specifications, blueprints, technical procedures, and regulations; identify problems with production and re‑chart to correct; direct, coach and motivate the work of others; resolve conflicts; coordinate multiple details related to various projects simultaneously.
  • Skill in directing and coordinating the work of others; operating a personal computer and various PC applications such as word processing and spreadsheets; interpreting an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form; working with several abstract and concrete variables; effectively resolving conflict; using tools as required for accomplishing the work.

Physical Demands

The physical demands for this position involve the ability to maneuver in a shipyard as needed to oversee the accomplishment of work. Requires extensive walking and standing, some climbing, crouching, twisting and stooping. Working with the tools pertinent to the supervisor’s craft involves manual dexterity and fine motor movement and the ability to lift and manipulate a variety of tools. May require some lifting or assistance with heavy equipment. Work is predominately performed outside or on‑board ships in all weather conditions.

Work Environment

The work environment for this job is demanding and potentially hazardous due to work on or inside ships as well as travel around ship repair yard.

Citizenship

Pursuant to a government contract, this specific position requires US citizenship.
