Job summary

McLane is seeking a fully trained shop mechanic to perform repairs on trailers, tractors, and refrigeration units. This role includes diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining diesel engines and cooling systems, with a focus on safety and quality.

You will work both independently and as part of a team, and you’ll be trained to operate required equipment within 30 days of hire. The position offers a competitive pay rate, shift premium, and a comprehensive benefits package starting after 60 days,

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Trade school in heavy‑duty diesel repairs or refrigeration preferred; entry level training available.
• Some job experience on vehicle or equipment maintenance is preferred.
• Possess basic hand tools (up to ½
• drive) and tool storage.
• Valid Class C Driver's License.
• Ability to read, write, and understand English at work level.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on trailers and their refrigeration systems.
• Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on Class 8 tractors.
• Perform simple and complex mechanical and electrical repairs.
• Diagnose, remove, repair, replace or rebuild brake systems, wheel seals, tires, tractor suspension, minor body repairs, batteries, drive lines, light repairs.
• Diagnose and make repairs on diesel engines.
• Troubleshoot cooling systems and conduct diagnostic tests.
• Cut or weld using cutting torch and welders.
• Read, understand and use service bulletins and technical manuals.
• Maintain shop tools and complete paper work and computer input.
• Comply with company work and safety rules and communicate effectively with supervisor and peers.
• Follow directions and work independently or in a team; be trained to operate required equipment within 30 days.
• Maintain attendance and be available for shop on‑call rotation.

This is a fully trained shop mechanic who is able to perform all required shop job duties and routine preventative maintenance functions. This position performs all repairs relating to tractor, trailer and minor repairs relating to the refrigeration power unit.

• Pay rate: $28.00 to $30.00 depending on experience, plus shift premium .40 per hour.
• Shift: Sunday to Thursday 2:30 PM start time. Schedule can be adjusted if needed.

What You'll Do As An Mechanic II

• Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on trailers and their refrigeration systems.
• Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on Class 8 tractors
• Perform simple and complex mechanical and electrical repairs.
• Must be able to perform the following repairs without supervision:
  • Diagnose, remove, repair, replace or rebuild:
    • Brake systems
    • Wheel seals
    • tires
    • tractor suspension
    • minor body repairs
    • batteries
    • drive lines
    • light repairs
• Diagnose and make repairs on diesel engines.
• Troubleshoot cooling systems.
• Conduct diagnostic tests.
• Cut or weld using cutting torch and welders.
• Read, understand and use service bulletins and technical manuals.
• Maintain shop tools.
• Complete all paper work and computer input.
• Comply effectively with company work and safety rules.
• Effectively communicate both written and orally with supervisor and peers.
• Follow directions.
• Work independently and in a team environment.
• Be trained and certified to operate any required equipment within 30 days after hire.
• Comply with company attendance policy.
• Maintain a flexible work schedule to meet the changing needs of the job. Must be available for shop on-call rotation.

Qualifications You'll Bring As a Mechanic II

• Have High School Diploma or GED. Trade school graduate in heavy duty diesel repairs, and/or refrigeration classes is preferred. Beginning level is preferred as we will train for all repairs necessary.
• Have some job experience on vehicle or equipment maintenance and repairs.
• Possess basic hand tools (up to ½\" drive) and tool storage.
• Possess a Valid Class C Driver's License.
• Stand, walk, bend, stoop, push, pull, grasp, and reach above the head for extended periods of time.
• This position requires the ability to read, write, and understand English at a level sufficient to perform job-related tasks effectively and safely. This includes understanding work instructions, safety protocols, and communications essential to the role. The requirement is directly related to the nature of the job and ensures compliance with workplace safety and operational standards.
