Job description

The Mechanic II reports to the Maintenance Manager. The Technician is responsible for repairing and maintaining mechanical equipment by conducting quality control analysis to evaluate performance while ensuring that all efforts comply with the company's Health, Safety, and Environmental standards. The Mechanic II must possess knowledge of machines and tools, including their design, use, repair, and maintenance.

This position operates under flexible parameters. The primary goal is to achieve excellence in all facets of the role. Providing the highest quality product safely, effectively, and efficiently reduces accidents and errors, increasing profits.

Essential Functions
  • Environmental and Health & Safety (H&S)
  • Strictly adhere to all Metals Recycling Business Health, Safety, and Environmental standards.
  • Provide a safe environment for all employees, customers, and visitors.
  • Operational Performance & Best Business Practices
  • Repair and replace broken or malfunctioning components of machinery and equipment.
  • Maintain the operating condition of industrial machinery and equipment.
  • Reassemble equipment after inspections, testing, or repairs.
  • Operate repaired machinery to verify repairs.
  • Record all repairs and maintenance performed.
  • Replace damaged or worn parts.
  • Test mechanical products and equipment post-repair to ensure proper performance and compliance.
  • Perform routine maintenance such as cleaning and lubricating equipment.
  • Read and understand manuals, blueprints, and technical drawings.
  • Diagnose faults using engine diagnostic equipment.
  • Special Projects
  • Assist throughout the yard as needed.
  • Perform assigned special projects.
Internal Control Responsibilities
  • Support the company's internal control processes, including understanding, communicating, and complying with policies and suggesting improvements.
  • Report operational or policy violations to management.
Interpersonal Contacts

Direct contact with Maintenance Manager and operations employees, primarily face-to-face.

Job Conditions

Exposed to weather, noise, fumes, and dirt. Safety gear such as shoes, hearing protection, respirators, and face shields is mandatory. No travel required. Workload may be unpredictable with potential for extra hours, including weekends and holidays.

Physical Activities

Stand for up to 12 hours, lift up to 100 pounds, crouch, bend, reach, twist, walk on uneven ground, handle tools, communicate verbally, and perform detailed visual tasks. Must work independently with attention to detail.

Qualifications

High School diploma or GED required. Minimum 5 years of experience assisting skilled trades in heavy equipment repair. Candidates with an Associate's degree in Heavy Duty Truck or Heavy Equipment Repair plus 2 years relevant experience may be considered. Valid driver's license required.
