Job summary

Tufts Medicine seeks a General Facilities Maintenance Technician to perform a variety of maintenance, preventative maintenance, inspection, repair and construction duties across hospital buildings and grounds.

You will work with trades including electrical, plumbing, carpentry and HVAC, following safety rules and maintaining required records. High school diploma and 1 year building maintenance are required; valid driver’s license also required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• One year of building maintenance experience.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Completion of vocational or trade school program (preferred).
• Three years of building maintenance experience (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Work from written/verbal instructions using prints and specs.
• Repair and install hospital infrastructure components.
• Use welding, plumbing tools, grinders, drills and related hand tools.
• Maintain records and move materials as needed; report issues.
• Keep work area clean and follow safety rules.
• Submit preventative maintenance work orders in timeframes.
• Respond to daily demand work orders via the Service Response System.
• Participate in snow removal and sanding functions.

Job Overview

Performs a variety of general maintenance, preventative maintenance, inspection, servicing, repair, overhaul and construction duties in all hospital buildings and grounds areas.Carries out tasks within capabilities involving a variety of maintenance crafts such as sheet metal, plumbing and pipe fitting, carpentry, tile setting, painting, electrical, roof maintenance,etc.Keeps supervisor informed of activities, needs and problems.Assumes responsibility for the control and security of the hospital lock and key system.

Job Description

Minimum Qualifications:

1. 1.High school diploma or equivalent.
2. 2.One (1) year of building maintenance.
3. 3.Valid driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications:

1. 1.Completion of a vocationalortrade school program.
2. 2.Three(3) years of building maintenance.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. 1.Worksfrom written and verbal instruction using prints, specifications, sketches,chartsand formulas to perform duties.
2. 2.Duties involve repair,replacementand installation of identified components of hospital infrastructure.
3. 3.Useswelding equipment, plumbing equipment, tools, hand and bench grinders, power drills, andnumeroushand and power tools necessary to the performance of duties.
4. 4.Maintainsnecessary records. Move materials and supplies as necessary in the performance of duties or as directed. Detect and report improper operations, faulty equipment, defective materials, and unusual conditions to supervisor.
5. 5.Maintainswork area in a clean and orderly condition. Follow furnished safety rules and regulations.
6. 6.Submitsassigned Preventative Maintenance Planned Work Orders within assignedtimeframe.
7. 7.Respondsto Daily Demand Work Orders produced by Service Response System.
8. 8.Participatesin all snow removal and sanding functions.

Physical Requirements:

1. Frequentbending, squatting, stooping.
2. Occasional liftingheavy weights occasionally.
3. Prolonged standing,walking, climbing stairs and ladders.
4. May be exposed to hazards from use of tools and power equipment.
5. Requires fine hand coordination to handle tools and other equipment.
6. Requires ability to hear verbal communication and see written or printed information.

Skills & Abilities:

1. 1.Knowledge of general maintenance procedures.
2. 2.Ability to set up andoperatevarious tools and equipment inherenttorepair and maintenance of hospital equipment,buildingsand grounds.
3. 3.Knowledge of safe use of equipment.
4. 4.Ability to organize and achieve quality performance in new routines,proceduresand skills in the function of a maintenance worker.
5. 5.Ability toread blueprints and specifications todeterminethe procedure of assembling and/ormaintaininghospital equipment,buildingsand grounds.
6. 6.Basic knowledge of electricity, plumbing,carpentryand painting as it relatesto various duties.
7. 7.Ability to exercise independent judgment in times of need and emergency situations.
