Job summary

Harris Ranch Company in Coalinga, CA is seeking an Experienced Equipment Mechanic to maintain and repair automotive, diesel, and power-driven equipment in our fleet. You will perform preventive maintenance, test systems, and diagnose problems to ensure safe and reliable operations across company vehicles and heavy equipment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Vocational/technical training or apprenticeship in auto repair preferred.
• Two years of related experience preferred.
• Commercial driver’s license may be required.

Responsibilities

• Maintains vehicles and fleet equipment.
• Performs routine and preventive maintenance (oil changes, tune-ups).
• Performs tests on parts and systems to ensure proper function.
• Diagnoses mechanical problems using manuals and diagnostic tools.
• Repairs or replaces malfunctioning parts such as engines, belts, water pumps, and transmissions.
• Plans and schedules repairs and maintenance.
• Inspects vehicles on-site and during test drives for safety and reliability.

The equipment Mechanic will perform repair work and maintenance for automotive, diesel, and other power-driven equipment in the company’s fleet.

Reports To:

Shop Manager

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Maintains vehicles, including the company’s fleet of cars, trucks, heavy equipment, tractors/trailers, and other motor vehicles.
• Performs routine and preventive maintenance, including oil changes and tune-ups.
• Performs tests on specific parts and systems to ensure proper function.
• Identifies mechanical problems either visually or with computer diagnostic equipment.
• Examines critical parts and systems using a standard checklist.
• Repairs or replaces malfunctioning parts and systems such as gasoline, diesel engines, belts, water pumps, transmissions, and other mechanical parts.
• Plans and establishes timetable to complete repairs and maintenance.
• Visits job sites to inspect vehicles, diagnose and locate mechanical difficulties on automobiles, trucks, diesel, gasoline-powered maintenance, and feed yard equipment.
• Test drives vehicle and equipment to confirm safe and proper operation.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

• Extensive knowledge of all aspects of vehicle repair.
• Excellent mechanical repair skills.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to read service and repair manuals.
• Proficient with computer diagnostic equipment and software.

Education and Experience:

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Vocational/technical school program or apprenticeship in auto repair or related field required.
• Two years of related experience preferred.
• Commercial driver’s license may be required.

Physical Requirements:

• Must be able to bend, stretch, kneel, and squat to perform repairs and inspections.
• Must be able to lift 50 pounds at times.
• Must be able to work safely in a noisy area with many odors present.
