Role Purpose

The Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for the troubleshooting and repair of the mechanical equipment throughout the site using personal decision-making to insure minimal disruption to the production process. This department is scheduled to provide services to the entire facility 7 days a week. A Mechanic may be required to work in one or more plant areas, doing one or multiple assignments during any given work-shift. Call-ins are a requirement of this position. This position requires a high level of self-management, punctuality, good attendance, and the ability to adjust to a variety of assignments.

Main Responsibilities

• Repair, replacement and installation of equipment including pumps, screw conveyors, rotary valves, relief valves, motors, conveyors, and its auxiliaries like pipes, flanges, gaskets, mechanical seals, filters.
• Align, disassemble and rebuild production equipment such as reciprocating compressors, steam turbines, bearing members, gearboxes and pumps.
• Utilization of micrometers and calipers to repair equipment; operation of drill press, hydraulic press, pedestal grinder, mill equipment and lathes.
• Work independently or in small groups to install, repair and replace equipment, including pumps, valves, motors, and other process equipment.
• Work independently or in pairs to repair equipment at workstation.
• Uses a variety of handheld tools which must be grasped manually, applying as much as 100 pounds of torque to disassemble mechanical units.
• Tools may be manual, electrical or pneumatic in nature, requiring adequate grip for safe operation.
• Walk/Stand upon a variety of surfaces to transport materials, equipment and tools between work areas.
• Required to stand approximately 5-6 hours per day.
• Standing/walking takes place upon concrete, asphalt, metal grated and diamond steel plated walkways and stairways.
• Required to climb as high as 5 flights of stairs 3-4 times a day to reach work area.
• Must be able to kneel, crouch, or crawl to reach restricted access work areas a minimum of 1-2 times daily.
• Work in varying environmental conditions.
• Required to work primarily outdoors in varying weather conditions. Outside temperatures may range from -32oF to an excess of 100oF. Indoor temperatures can be 110oF or higher.
• May be required to work 8-Hour shifts, 12- Hour shifts, rotating shifts, nights, weekends, holidays to maintain operation of a 24/7/365 plant operation.
• FOOD, ENVIRONMENT, HEALTH & SAFETY DUTY OF CARE: Food Safety: Carry out responsibilities/duties according to food safety, legal and quality requirements to ensure that our products are fit for human consumption Environment: Comply with all environmental standards, procedures, and work instructions always. Report any environmental violation or near misses to prevent any impact upon the local environment, its inhabitants and Tate & Lyle Health & Safety: Adhere to the safety policies, procedures, and site rules Fully participate in the safety program, including reporting any incidents or near misses and auditing

Skills, Training and Experience Required

• High School diploma or equivalent with minimum 2 years of experience as mechanic on industry and/or technical education on industrial maintenance or mechanic.
• Minimum 2 years Maintenance experience in a manufacturing/industrial environment.
• Must be able to read and write and possess competency in basic mathematics.
• Experience in troubleshooting and repair of the mechanical and equipment throughout the site.
• Knowledgeable in types and uses of valves.
• The ability to change/repair and align pumps.
• Experience in precision measuring instruments such as micrometers and calipers to repair equipment; and operating a drill press, hydraulic press, pedestal grinder, mill equipment and lathes.
• Familiar with reading and working from blueprints and/or single line drawings.
• Experience with maintaining high speed rotating equipment, such as turbines and compressors (preferred).
• Ability to align, troubleshoot, disassemble and rebuild production equipment such as reciprocating compressors, steam turbines and centrifugal pumps (preferred).
• Basic welding skills (preferred).
• Ability to use computerized maintenance software.
• Must be able to understand and comply with GMP regulations.
• Good understanding of Electrical, Instrumentation and Hand Tools.
• Knowledge of how to work with Hart Communicator, a multi meter, basic computer skills.
• Knowledge on how to calibrate instruments (flow, pressure, level).
• Knowledge on how to read and troubleshoot electrical diagram.
