Austin Industrial in Lincolnton, NC is seeking a Mechanic Helper to support the Mechanic in diagnosing and repairing industrial equipment. This on-site, full-time position requires 1–2 years of maintenance experience and the ability to read schematics, with a strong emphasis on safety.

You will perform preventive maintenance, assist in installations and repairs, and operate using appropriate PPE in a manufacturing environment.

Qualifications

• Experience: 1–2 years in a maintenance function, preferably within a facility maintenance setting.

The Industrial Mechanic Top Helper assists the Mechanic who diagnoses mechanical failures and makes needed repairs to industrial mechanical equipment. Duties include providing mechanical support, preventative maintenance, installation, service, repair, troubleshooting and resolution of multiple operating machines within a manufacturing industrial environment. This is accomplished by performing the following essential duties and responsibilities. Other duties may be assigned.

Responsibilities

• Maintain viability on health and safety of employees, customers and the surrounding community and environment.
• Install, maintain, inspect, troubleshoot, repair, and perform preventative maintenance inspections and repairs on all mechanical equipment and systems.
• Tests, repairs, or installs mechanical units, such as water pumps, fuel pumps, governors, distributors, carburetors systems, brakes, clutches, and other such devices.
• Replaces bearings, chains, sprockets, and a variety of other machine parts.
• Rebuilds pumps, cylinders, valves, chillers, and various mechanical equipment as necessary following standard operating procedure.
• Diagnosis mechanical equipment malfunctions, make recommendations for repairs and initiate repairs in accordance with regulatory cand cGMP requirements using OEM manuals and specifications.
• Knowledge of shop and hand tools as necessary to complete and phase of installation or maintenance.
• Ability to read and understand prints, schematics, piping diagrams, technical manuals, and related documentation.
• Must be able to perform work wearing personnel protective equipment. Including but not limited to the following: rain gear, chemical protective clothing, supplied air and air purifying respirators, safety harness, sand blast hoods, fire resistant coveralls, hard hat, ear plugs and safety glasses.
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to have full range of mobility in upper and lower body, able to reach overhead, able to work in various positions, including, but not limited to, stooping, standing, bending over, sitting, kneeling, squatting; use hands to handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; work at heights, balance for extended periods of time.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Experience – 1 to 2 years of experience working within a maintenance function preferably in a facility maintenance related setting.

Must pass pre-employment physical, drug screen, and background check, as a condition of employment.

Employees must be able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) and meet all customer, site, regulatory, medical, and fitness-for-duty requirements applicable to the position.
