Job summary

Republic Services is seeking a Diesel Mechanic to perform repairs and preventive maintenance on fleet vehicles and equipment at Industrial Services sites. You will work from maintenance orders, use shop tools, and ensure safety standards are followed.

Qualified candidates have 1–2 years of experience, CDL with tanker endorsement preferred, and the ability to lift 75 pounds. The role requires independent decision-making and on-call availability.

Qualifications

• 1–2 years hands-on Diesel Mechanic experience.
• CDL A or B with tanker endorsement preferred.
• Technical skills for diagnostic equipment.
• Ability to lift/move 75 pounds repeatedly.
• Willingness to be on-call on weekends or as needed.
• Pass pre-employment checks and OSHA safety training.

Responsibilities

• Perform repairs and maintenance on vehicles and equipment per orders.
• Inspect and adjust guards, bolts and safety devices on trucks.
• Operate shop equipment and use diagnostic tools.
• Change tires as needed.
• Complete on-site and on-road repairs while ensuring safety.
• Review and sign off on driver inspection reports.
• Comply with DOT regulations and company policies.
• Assist with other management-assigned tasks.

Job description

POSITION SUMMARY

Perform all equipment repairs and maintenance of all vehicles and equipment as needed for Industrial Services sites.

PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES

• Perform work specified on maintenance and repair orders with efficiency and in accordance with company protocols and standards (i.e., brake pads, rotors, alignments, etc.)
• Examining protective guards, loose bolts, and specified safety devices on trucks, and adjusting as needed
• Will be required to operate equipment such as grinders, compressors, jacks, various hand tools and other needed items in the maintenance shop.
• Change tires as needed
• Perform all duties and tasks in the most safe and secure manner, using Personal Protective Equipment when applicable
• Perform on-site and on-road repairs as needed
• Review Driver Pre-trip and Post-trip inspection reports. Sign off on items that have been repaired.
• Comply with all DOT regulations and standards for all on road vehicles
• Complete all other assignments made by management
• Comply with all USE Management System policies and procedures

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• 1-2 Years hands on experience as a Diesel Mechanic. Experience is a fast-paced work environment.
• Ability to work in fast paced, high stress situations CDL (A or B) with tanker endorsement, preferred
• Technical skills are preferred due to the use of sophisticated diagnostic equipment
• Must be able to lift and or move 75 pounds repeatedly (e.g., grease drums, vehicle parts, grader blades)
• Profound ability to make decisions and work independently with little direction from management
• Must be flexible with schedule and be able to be “on call” on weekends or as needed
• Must have working knowledge of shop equipment such as wheel and tire equipment, alignment system, diagnostic equipment, etc.
• Pass a Pre-Employment Background Screening
• Pass the Company's Auto Insurance Qualifiers
• Pass the OSHA HAZWOPER 40-hour training
• Must be able to obtain Transportation Worker (TWIC) clearance. This may not be applicable to all divisions. If required, must get within first 45 days of employment
