Job summary

Area Truck and Equipment (ATEC) in Elkton, MD is seeking a Mechanic Assistant to help keep the shop clean and organized while assisting mechanics and gaining hands-on experience with our fleet. This role supports maintenance and inspections of our cutting-edge heavy-duty trucks and equipment.

• Require valid driver's license.
• Strong writing and typing skills.
• Working knowledge of health, safety and environmental practices and procedures.
• Must successfully complete a criminal background check and drug screen.
• Work up to 40 hours per week.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
• Work in conjunction with other shop and job site personnel under the direction of shop supervisor.
• Properly document repairs and inspections performed.
• Other duties as assigned
• Responsible for performing proper maintenance and repair of our new cutting-edge fleet of heavy-duty trucks, pickup trucks, specialized utility equipment, and trailers
• Inspect and troubleshoot heavy duty trucks and equipment to assess condition and diagnose repairs
• Must possess a basic working knowledge of automatic and manual transmissions, differentials, power-take-off drives, clutches and related drive train components
• Must possess a basic working knowledge of hydraulic systems and components to include pumps, cylinders, motors, and control valves
• Retrieve diagnostic trouble codes and scan tool data
• Troubleshoot, adjust, replace, repair and rewire electrical systems and components, such as ignitions, signals, lights and electrical controls, including computer-controlled components
• Order parts, supplies, and tools from designated vendors

Position Summary:

As a Mechanic Assistant you will help keep the shop clean and organized as well as working alongside mechanics when needed. While in this position you will gain hands on experience into the operation and mechanical aspect of our fleet.
