Job summary

ALPHA MILLING COMPANY INC is seeking a Mechanic to maintain and repair all company equipment, including milling machines, reclaimers, skid steers, and trucks. You will diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues and perform on-site field repairs as needed.

Safe work practices, 3+ years of heavy equipment experience, and ability to work outdoors and overtime during peak seasons are required. CDL preferred and strong communication with the Shop Manager team are essential.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Welding heavy machinery experience required.
• 3+ years of repair/maintenance on heavy‑duty construction equipment preferred.
• Roto‑milling or related equipment experience highly preferred.
• Ability to work long hours outdoors in various conditions.
• Detail oriented, organized, and able to work independently under pressure.
• Basic computer literacy.
• Valid driver's license; CDL preferred.
• Knowledge of safety operations and procedures (DOT/OSHA).
• Ability to perform heavy manual labor and use hand/power tools.
• Good reading/writing and English communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Ensure safe practices are followed in all daily activities.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues.
• Read schematics and blueprints to aid repairs and diagnostics.
• Repair/replace major components of milling machines and heavy equipment.
• Perform routine maintenance on heavy equipment.
• Conduct annual vehicle inspections per DOT requirements.
• Perform on-site repairs in the field as needed.
• Maintain professionalism and customer satisfaction for equipment operators.
• Communicate repair needs and parts to Shop Manager to manage inventory.
• Coordinate with Shop Manager, mechanics, and operators to ensure timely service.
• Possibly work overtime, nights, and weekends during peak season.
• Maintain safe, efficient shop workflow and complete special projects as required.

Job Description

The Mechanic is responsible for the health and maintenance of all the Company equipment that is in service, to include pickups and all company heavy equipment (i.e., milling machines, reclaimers, skid steers, forklifts vehicles, etc.). The mechanic is responsible for maintaining production, quality and safety standards by ensuring the operation of machinery and mechanical equipment.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

• Above all, ensure that safe practices are followed in all aspects of daily activities.
• Diagnose / troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues accurately the first time.
• Read schematics, diagrams, blueprints, etc. to assist with repairs and/or diagnostics.
• Diagnose complex electric, hydraulic, and mechanical issues.
• Remove, replace, and repair major components of milling machines, skid-steer loaders, street sweepers, heavy and light trucks, etc.
• Perform routine maintenance services on heavy equipment.
• Conduct annual vehicle inspections as per Department of Transportation (DOT) requirements.
• Perform repairs on-site in the field as needed.
• Maintain degree of professionalism and customer satisfaction for employees operating the equipment and a positive customer experience.
• Actively communicate with the Shop Manager, other mechanics, operators, etc. to ensure repair and maintenance services are provided in a timely manner.
• Ensure part needs are communicated to Shop Manager to ensure proper inventory levels.
• Maintain ability to work overtime, nights and weekends particularly during the high season summer months.
• Maintain a safe and efficient workflow in the shop.
• Complete special projects as required.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Prior experience welding heavy machinery.
• Experience and excellent knowledge of the repair and maintenance of heavy duty construction equipment; a minimum of 3 years of experience preferred.
• Experience with roto-milling and/or related equipment highly preferred.
• Ability to work long hours outdoors and will be on their feet all day while either walking or standing.
• Detail oriented, organized, and capable of working independently and efficiently in a high-pressure environment.
• Reasonable level of computer literacy.
• Valid driver license and acceptable motor vehicle record; CDL preferred.
• Knowledge of organizational and safety operations and procedures, safety methods and practices.
• Knowledge and understanding of Department of Transportation (DOT) and current OSHA rules and regulations and ensuring compliance with these guidelines.
• Ability to engage in heavy manual labor for extended periods, in all types of weather and under various working conditions.
• Demonstrated skills in the care and use of hand and power tools employed in all phases of heavy equipment mechanical maintenance and repair work.
• Able to read, write and communicate verbally in English. Ability to communicate effectively with a wide variety of people and backgrounds.
• Ability to follow instructions in a verbal and written format.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

• Occasionally works in an indoor office relatively free from environmental conditions or hazards.
