The City of North Royalton seeks a Mechanic to maintain department vehicles and assist the Plant Mechanic in servicing wastewater pumps, impellers, blowers, compressors and emergency generators at treatment plants and pump stations.
This on-call position requires welding, fabrication and basic electrical work, routine preventive maintenance, and the ability to follow instructional and safety procedures while keeping accurate records.
JOB SUMMARY:
The position of Mechanic, under general supervision, shall perform skilled work in the maintenance of department vehicles. The Mechanic will work with the Plant Mechanic to assist and gain experience in the maintenance of mechanical, electrical and electronic equipment at the wastewater treatment plants and pump stations; learn and perform skilled work in the repair and fabrication of equipment by use of welding equipment; learn and perform skilled work in maintaining and repairing piping, fixtures and equipment for gas and fuel systems; perform related work as required. The Mechanic is on call twenty‑four hours a day and must provide his or her own transportation to and from the job site.
Ability to work on equipment in confined spaces, wells, or limited access areas which would require him or her to use ladders or steep stairwells to reach the necessary equipment. Ability to do strenuous manual work under varying weather conditions. Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with subordinates, peers, and supervisors. Ability to exercise sound judgment in evaluating situations and in making decisions. Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
High School Diploma or Equivalent and possess a current, valid Ohio Driver's License. Ten years of progressively responsible experience in the maintenance of vehicles. Preferred additional experience in the repair of wastewater equipment including pumps of 5 Million Gallon per Day (MGD) capacity or greater, compressors, blowers, vactors and sludge presses.
