Job summary

Comfort Systems USA is seeking a Mechanic to support mechanical service and retrofit work in job sites, rooftops, and mechanical rooms. You will perform sheet metal modifications, piping tasks, gasket and valve work, and ensure strict LOTO compliance.

The role requires reading drawings and specs, following torque requirements, maintaining safety, and communicating status to the foreman. Travel to construction sites is expected as needed.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience in mechanical service, piping, HVAC or industrial maintenance.
• Knowledge of flanges, gaskets, valves, and mechanical connections.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and safety procedures.
• Willingness to travel to construction sites.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work at heights.

Responsibilities

• Perform sheet metal modification and installation to support mechanical equipment, ducting interfaces, and field-fit needs.
• Remove and replace pipe gaskets; prepare flange faces, align flanges, and verify proper fit-up and sealing surfaces.
• Complete chiller valve replacements and perform isolation, removal/replacement, reassembly, and checks.
• Install flanged pipe couplings and torque to specification using torque wrenches.
• Execute LOTO: identify energy sources, isolate equipment, apply lockout/tagout devices, verify zero-energy state.
• Read job documentation to complete tasks correctly the first time.
• Maintain a clean, safe work area; use PPE; follow safety policies.
• Communicate status, material needs, and issues to supervisor; document work.
• Use and maintain tools properly; elevate issues when needed.
• Support troubleshooting and basic mechanical service tasks within skillset.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform sheet metal modification and installation to support mechanical equipment, ducting interfaces, and field-fit needs.
• Remove and replace pipe gaskets; prepare flange faces, align flanges, and verify proper fit-up and sealing surfaces.
• Complete chiller valve replacements (isolation support, removal/replacement, reassembly, and operational checks per job requirements).
• Install flanged pipe couplings and hardware; torque to specification using appropriate tools and documented torque requirements.
• Execute LOTO: identify energy sources, isolate equipment, apply lockout/tagout devices, and verify zero-energy state per procedure.
• Read and work from job documentation (drawings, specs, work orders) to complete tasks correctly the first time.
• Maintain a clean, safe work area; use PPE; follow all safety policies and jobsite rules.
• Communicate job status, material needs, and field issues to the supervisor/foreman; document completed work as required.
• Use and maintain tools and equipment properly, including torque wrenches and standard mechanical hand/power tools.

Requirements

• Demonstrated hands-on experience in mechanical service, piping, HVAC mechanical, plumbing, or industrial maintenance
• Working knowledge of:
• Flanges, gaskets, valves, and mechanical connections
• Proper tool use including torque tools
• Jobsite safety practices and hazard awareness
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and work safely in active job environments.
• Must be able to travel to construction sites as needed

Physical Requirements

• Ability to understand oral and written instructions; effective verbal communication.
• Compliance with company dress code and appearance standards.
• Visual acuity for reading small print and identifying details on equipment and drawings.
• Frequent standing, walking, sitting, and use of hands for handling materials and tools.
• Ability to lift and move up to 50 lbs frequently and over long distances (30+ feet).
• Comfortable working at heights over 30 feet and climbing ladders or stairs.
• Ability to bend, kneel, and work in confined spaces; perform repetitive motions as needed.
