Job summary

CEMEX in South Daytona, FL is seeking a Mechanic to diagnose and repair diesel tractors, trailers and other wheeled equipment. You will perform preventive maintenance and troubleshoot electrical and hydraulic systems, following safety policies.

The ideal candidate has a high school diploma, 3 years of related experience, and working knowledge of heavy vehicle systems. Familiarity with OSHA rules and the ability to read manuals is preferred; bilingual Spanish is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose vehicle problems and perform repairs following accepted methods.
• Discuss complex repairs with Terminal Manager or Supervisor.
• Adhere to CEMEX safety policies and OSHA regulations.
• Ensure shop and repairs comply with OSHA regulations.
• Perform routine maintenance per PM checklist.
• Plan routine work procedures.
• Lift vehicles with hydraulic jack or hoist to access components.
• Remove and replace components such as alternators, starters, water pumps.
• Disassemble components and inspect wear/failure causes.
• Troubleshoot and repair hydraulic systems.
• Inspect and replace brakes, belts, seals and other parts.
• Overhaul and rebuild serviceable components.
• Occasional regional travel for repairs.
• Diagnose and repair electrical systems.
• Welding as needed; cutting with gas/electric welding.
• Replace headlights and install accessories.
• Enter work orders for equipment inventory.
• Follow company, OSHA, MSHA rules at all times.
• Wear safety equipment on plant grounds.
• Meet or exceed safety standards.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Summary

The Mechanic diagnoses and repairs diesel tractors, trailers and other wheeled vehicles by performing the following duties.

Job Responsibilities

• Examines and diagnoses vehicle problems, and repairs according to generally accepted methods
• Discusses extensive or difficult in-depth repairs with Terminal Manager, and/or Supervisor
• Demonstrate and enforces CEMEX safety policies and regulations to all mechanics (i.e. lockout tagout policies, hazard assessment)
• Make sure shop and all repairs are in compliance with OSHA regulations
• Performs routine scheduled maintenance outlined on PM checklist sheets
• Plans all routine work procedures
• Raises vehicle, with hydraulic jack or hoist, to gain access to mechanical components for removal, repair or inspection
• Removes components for repair of replacement such as, but not limited to: alternators, starters, water pumps, radiators, condensers, compressors, clutches, transmissions, differentials, wheel assemblies, brakes, drivelines, gearboxes, pump, rollers, etc
• Disassembles components, inspects parts for wear, and determines cause of failure
• Troubleshoots and repairs hydraulic systems, and components
• Inspects and replaces parts such as clutches, wheel seals, brake linings, drums, bearings, and all other components as described above
• Overhauls and rebuilds serviceable components
• Some regional traveling required to repair company equipment
• Diagnoses and repairs electrical systems and circuitry in accordance with acceptable industry standards
• Performs occasional cutting and welding utilizing both gas and electric welding equipment
• Replaces and adjusts headlights, and installs and repairs accessories such as radios, heaters, mirrors, and windshield wiper blades
• Enters work orders on system for equipment inventory purposes
• Adhere to all CEMEX, OSHA, and MSHA rules and regulations at all times
• Wear proper safety equipment while on plant grounds
• Meet or exceed company safety standards
• Perform other job responsibilities as assigned by management

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent
• 3 years related experience, training or equivalent combination of education and experience

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Able to understand, interpret, communicate, and execute with exactness instructions given in both verbal and written form
• Bi‑lingual Spanish a plus
• Able to recognize potentially hazardous situations, understanding instructions given by supervisor, possess common sense
• Ability to deal with mechanical problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
• Possession of valid Driveras License; prefer Class A or Class B CDL or the ability to obtain such a license within the new employee evaluation period (180 days) with driving record that meets company requirements in order to retrieve or test drive company commercial vehicles
• Forklift certified or willing to obtain
• TWIC preferred or willing to obtain

Working Conditions

• Job involves sitting most of the time, but also involves walking or standing for brief periods of time

Physical Requirements

• Walking, sitting, lifting, pushing, pulling, and climbing to a significant degree
• Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear, in order to communicate to employees/visitors
