Job summary

Patriot Disposal Services in Chambersburg, PA is seeking a hands-on Mechanic to lead fleet maintenance on diesel-powered waste management trucks and heavy equipment. You will perform diagnostics, routine servicing, and repairs to keep front-load, rear-load, and roll-off vehicles ready for operation.

Qualifications

• Experience as a diesel mechanic, preferably in waste management, heavy equipment, or truck fleets.
• Strong understanding of diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical and air brake systems.
• Experience using diagnostic tools, hand tools, and power tools.
• CDL (Commercial Driver's License) is a plus.
• High school diploma or equivalent; additional diesel training preferred.
• Ability to lift up to 70 lbs and work in varying weather conditions.
• Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple repair projects.
• Problem-solving to diagnose and minimize downtime.

Responsibilities

• Preventive Care: Conduct routine inspections and preventative maintenance services, including engine checks, fluid changes, brake adjustments, and tire replacements.
• Repairs and Replacements: Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues and replace worn or damaged parts, such as brake systems, engines, hydraulics, transmissions, and air systems.
• Safety Compliance: Ensure that all repairs and maintenance activities adhere to safety standards, environmental regulations, and company protocols.
• Documentation: Maintain accurate records of all maintenance and repair activities, including parts used, hours worked, and services performed.
• Team Collaboration: Work closely with other mechanics and supervisors to prioritize repairs and efficiently manage the fleet maintenance schedule.

• Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; additional technical training in diesel mechanics is preferred.
• Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 70lbs and perform tasks in varying weather conditions, including working in tight spaces and on heavy equipment.
• Attention to Detail: Strong organizational skills and the ability to track and manage multiple repair projects simultaneously.
• Problem-Solving: Ability to quickly diagnose and solve mechanical problems, ensuring minimal downtime and maximum vehicle availability.
