Job summary

Joseph Gallo Farms seeks a Maintenance Mechanic to care for and maintain production assets in a safe, efficient manner. You will troubleshoot electrical, mechanical and pneumatic/hydraulic issues, perform preventive maintenance, and stay up to date with equipment and techniques.

Requirements include a high school diploma and 3–5 years in a process manufacturing setting. The role reports to the Maintenance Supervisor and includes a benefits package and a collaborative team environment.

Qualifications

• 3-5 years experience in maintenance/operation of a process manufacturing facility.
• Strong background in electrical, HVAC, boiler, PLC & mechanical environments.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Summary of Functions

The Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for the care and maintenance of all property and production assets in a safe, sanitary and efficient condition. The Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for staying up to date on new products, equipment, technology and techniques.

Major Duties And Responsibilities

• Perform preventative maintenance tasks to support production operations in a fast paced environment.
• Remove and install bearings.
• Repair gear boxes
• Diagnose and repair electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic/hydraulic problems on all plant equipment.
• Work on Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs)/ DC motors
• Replace electrical motors
• Trouble shoot electrical circuitry/MCC
• Experience and working knowledge on the following voltages: 24 V. DC; 120 V: AC single phase; 208/240 single phase and 208/240/480 V. three phase.
• Complete work orders in a timely manner to the highest quality standards.
• Perform all tasks in accordance with company safety and GMP policies/guidelines.
• Readily available for emergency repairs in breakdown situations
• Follow all required work safe practices. This would include lock-out tag-out requirements and wearing of all required PPE in designated areas, confined space safety, safe chemical handling, fall restraints, etc.
• May be assigned other task other than maintenance mechanic responsibilities.

Food Safety Requirements/Responsibilities

• Comply with all Plant, State and Federal OSHA, EPA, FDA, HACCP, and SQF regulations.
• Comply with GMPs in the plant.
• Assist in the maintenance of Food Safety and Quality system.

Organizational Relationships

Position reports to the Maintenance Supervisor.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• 3-5 years experience in the maintenance and/or operation of a process manufacturing facility.
• In-depth knowledge of the production plant is an asset.
• Experience with repairs and maintenance of processing equipment.
• Strong background in electrical, HVAC, boiler, PLC & mechanical environments
• Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
• Hands-on, team-oriented and committed to business improvement processes
• Process-oriented mentality
• Strong problem-solving capabilities
• Strong knowledge in writing product specifications

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

• Effectively handle lifting of various objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
• While performing the essential functions of the job, the employee will be required to bend, stoop, kneel, reach and climb stairs.
• Ability to sit at a computer for long periods of time.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

• This position will work in an office environment with regular trips to manufacturing and warehouse centers.
• Regular exposure to elements such as odor, noise, dust, heat, cold, or chemicals.
