Job summary

Comfort Systems USA in Albuquerque, NM seeks a Mechanic to support mechanical service and retrofit by performing sheet metal modifications, piping work, gasket and valve replacements, and LOTO compliance on active job sites.

You will read drawings and specs, install flanged couplings, torque to spec, and maintain safety while working in mechanical rooms, rooftops, and construction zones. Willingness to travel to sites is required.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience in mechanical service, piping, HVAC mechanical, plumbing, or industrial maintenance.
• Knowledge of flanges, gaskets, valves, and mechanical connections is beneficial.
• Ability to use torque tools safely and follow jobsite safety practices.

Responsibilities

• Perform sheet metal modification and installation to support mechanical equipment and ducting interfaces.
• Remove and replace pipe gaskets; prepare flange faces, align flanges, and verify fit-up and sealing surfaces.
• Complete chiller valve replacements and verify operation per job requirements.
• Install flanged pipe couplings and torque to specification with appropriate tools.
• Execute Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) per procedure and maintain zero-energy state.
• Read and work from drawings, specs and work orders to complete tasks correctly the first time.
• Maintain a clean, safe work area, use PPE, and follow all safety policies and site rules.
• Communicate status, material needs, and field issues to supervisor/foreman; document work performed.

This role works safely, follows job specifications and torque requirements, and produces high-quality work in mechanical rooms, rooftops, and active job sites.

The Mechanic supports mechanical service and retrofit work by performing sheet metal modifications/installation and mechanical piping tasks including gasket replacement, valve replacements, flanged coupling installation and torquing, and strict Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) execution. This role works safely, follows job specifications and torque requirements, and produces high-quality work in mechanical rooms, rooftops, and active job sites.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform sheet metal modification and installation to support mechanical equipment, ducting interfaces, and field-fit needs.
• Remove and replace pipe gaskets; prepare flange faces, align flanges, and verify proper fit-up and sealing surfaces.
• Complete chiller valve replacements (isolation support, removal/replacement, reassembly, and operational checks per job requirements).
• Install flanged pipe couplings and hardware; torque to specification using appropriate tools and documented torque requirements.
• Execute LOTO: identify energy sources, isolate equipment, apply lockout/tagout devices, and verify zero-energy state per procedure.
• Read and work from job documentation (drawings, specs, work orders) to complete tasks correctly the first time.
• Maintain a clean, safe work area; use PPE; follow all safety policies and jobsite rules.
• Communicate job status, material needs, and field issues to the supervisor/foreman; document completed work as required.
• Use and maintain tools and equipment properly, including torque wrenches and standard mechanical hand/power tools.
• Support troubleshooting and basic mechanical service tasks within your skillset; elevate issues when needed.

Requirements

• Demonstrated hands-on experience in mechanical service, piping, HVAC mechanical, plumbing, or industrial maintenance
• Working knowledge of:
• Flanges, gaskets, valves, and mechanical connections
• Proper tool use including torque tools
• Jobsite safety practices and hazard awareness
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and work safely in active job environments.
• Must be able to travel to construction sites as needed

Physical Requirements

• Ability to understand oral and written instructions; effective verbal communication.

• Visual acuity for reading small print and identifying details on equipment and drawings.
• Frequent standing, walking, sitting, and use of hands for handling materials and tools.
