Job summary

Newport News Shipbuilding, a division of HII, is seeking a skilled sheet metal Fabricator to fabricate, assemble, install, and repair production sheet metal components in accordance with blueprints and specifications. The role involves operating fabrication machinery, shaping metal, welding, and performing quality inspections to ensure conformance to standards.

The position is Full-Time with multiple shifts; relocation assistance is not offered.

Qualifications

• Must have a high school diploma or equivalent plus 2 years of related education or experience.
• Apprentice graduate/Associate’s Degree in a relevant discipline with 1 year of related experience may be required.

Responsibilities

• Fabricates, assembles, installs, and repairs production sheet metal products per blueprints and specifications.
• Sets up and operates fabricating machinery; shapes metal over anvils/forms; operates welding and soldering equipment.
• Inspects assemblies for conformance to specifications and may monitor quality using standard procedures.

The Role

Fabricates, assembles, installs, and repairs production sheet metal products and equipment such as control boxes, drain pipes, ventilators, and furnace casings in accordance with blueprints, drawings, and specifications. Makes sheet metal layouts; sets up and operates fabricating machinery; shapes metal over anvils, blocks, or forms; operates welding and soldering equipment; and inspects assemblies and installations for conformance to specifications. May monitor and verify quality in accordance with statistical process or other control procedures.

Must Have

High School diploma or equivalent and 2 years additional education and/or related experience; Apprentice graduate/ Associate's Degree in relevant discipline and 1 year of related experience. May require certification.
