Job summary

Huntington Ingalls Industries, Inc. in Goose Creek, SC, is seeking a skilled pipefitter responsible for installing, modifying, and repairing piping systems on our shipboard projects.

You will read drawings, plan routes, and ensure proper elevation, pitch, and pressure control to maintain safe, leak-free operation. Must have a high school diploma or equivalent with 5 years of related experience, plus an apprentice graduate or associate degree in a relevant discipline and 3 years of related work.

  • Apprentice graduate or Associate's Degree in a relevant discipline with 3 years of related experience.
  • May require professional certification.

Responsibilities

  • Install, modify, and repair piping systems and equipment from drawings and sketches.
  • Plan routing, placement, pitch, elevation, and expansion for shipboard piping.
  • Install hangers, joints, and test systems to ensure leak-free operation.

The Role

Responsible for installing, modifying, and repairing new and existing piping systems and equipment. The pipefitters work from drawings, blueprints, and sketches to plan and lay out the routing, placement, pitch, elevation, pressure reduction, expansion, and operation of various piping systems and equipment. They install, modify, and repair systems by setting up system routes, placing and cutting route openings, installing hangers at proper pitch and elevation, and determining and installing such things as risers, branch outlets, expansion joints, pumps, gauges, and pressure regulators in the combination needed to ensure the proper operation of the systems. The pipefitters also install equipment by planning and completing the routing and placement of systems leading to the equipment, determining and placing the equipment at the proper elevations and points in the systems, and joining, sealing, and testing systems and equipment for proper pressures, leak‑free joints, and operation.

Must Have

High School diploma or equivalent and 5 years additional education and/or related experience; Apprentice graduate/Associate's Degree in relevant discipline and 3 years of related experience. May require certification.
