Job summary

Newport News Shipbuilding is seeking a coating technician to apply protective and decorative finishes to parts, assemblies and finished products. You will spray, brush or roller-coat surfaces and mix coating materials, ensuring proper coverage and adherence.

The role requires a high school diploma or equivalent with related experience; alternative pathways include an apprenticeship or an associate degree. No relocation is offered, and the position is full-time on-site at our facilities.

The Role

Coats surface of parts, assemblies, and finished products with protective or decorative materials such as paint, varnish, enamel, lacquer, dope, or stain using spray gun. Selects and mixes coating material; coats areas inaccessible to hand sprayer using brush or roller. May monitor and verify quality in accordance with statistical process or other control procedures.

Must Have

High School diploma or equivalent and 2 years additional education and/or related experience; Apprentice graduate/ Associate's Degree in relevant discipline and 1 year of related experience. May require certification.
