Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate CNC mills, lathes, and milling machines to fabricate large parts.
  • Interpret blueprints and engineering specs to determine operations and correct tooling.
  • Select feeds and speeds, and perform measurements to ensure tolerances.
  • Assemble precision parts into mechanical assemblies and verify dimensions.
  • Modify CNC programs as needed and monitor quality per procedures.

The Role

Sets up and operates a variety of machine tools such as advanced CNC mills, lathes, milling machines, to fabricate large piece parts and tooling to exacting tolerances and dimensions. Interprets blueprints, sketches, and engineering specifications; determines sequence of operations, number of cuts required, and method of setup; uses a variety of machinist's hand tools and precision measuring instruments; makes standard shop computations relating to dimensions of work, tooling, feeds, and speeds; measures, marks, and scribes dimensions and reference points to lay out stock for machining; fits and assembles precision parts into mechanical equipment and determines material, parts, and equipment required. May modify numerically controlled programs on computer numerically controlled (CNC) machines. May monitor and verify quality in accordance with statistical process or other control procedures. Typically requires completion of a formal apprenticeship or equivalent training and experience.

Must Have

High School diploma or equivalent and 5 years additional education and/or related experience; Apprentice graduate/ Associate's Degree in relevant discipline and 3 years of related experience. May require certification.

Nice to Have

Previous experience with manufacturing large parts and the Siemens 840D CNC control.
