Job summary

Cemex is seeking a Lead Mechanic in Wetumpka, AL to maintain and repair a range of mobile equipment, both in shop and on roadways. You will drive preventative maintenance programs, diagnose electrical and hydraulic issues, and lead by example in a safety‑conscious maintenance team.

You’ll coordinate with Terminal Management to set maintenance priorities, review inspections, and ensure parts availability. The role requires strong problem solving, reliable communication, and a commitment to uptime

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; 3+ years of relevant experience preferred.
• Must have own tools up to 1 inch.
• English reading/writing proficiency required; bilingual a plus.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose electrical problems and perform mechanical repairs on trailers, Moffatts, tires, brakes, and suspension.
• Operate and inspect equipment to identify defects and ensure safety.
• Repair hydraulic systems, electronics and other truck/trailer components.
• Create work orders and purchase requisitions for repairs and services.
• Input daily repair reports into the tracking program and review Pre-Trip inspections.
• Adhere to all CEMEX and OSHA safety rules and wear PPE.

Job Summary

ABOUT THE JOB

As a Lead Mechanic at Cemex, you will be responsible for performing maintenance and repairs on a variety of mobile equipment, both in company shops and on public roadways. This role focuses on maximizing equipment availability through efficient, proactive repair and preventative maintenance programs. Additionally, the Lead Mechanic serves as a key liaison between the shop and Terminal Operations, working closely with Terminal Management to establish and manage maintenance priorities.

Job Responsibilities

WHAT YOU WILL GET TO DO

• Diagnose electrical problems, perform mechanical repairs,maintenance onequipment(trailers, Moffetts, tires, brakes, suspension)
• Operate and inspect equipment to diagnose defects.
• Troubleshoot and repair hydraulic systems, electronics, and other components of trucks and trailers.
• Remove components for repair or replacement (injectors, starters, water pumps, radiators, brakes, electrical systems)
• Routine preventative maintenance: lubricating, oil changes, failure analysis.
• Routine brake inspections/adjustments on commercial vehicles, following Federal DOT requirements.
• Communicateforadherence to preventativepolicies and practices.
• Create work orders and purchase requisitions for repairs and services.
• Input daily repair reports into a software-based tracking program.
• Coordinate toreview Pre-Trip truck inspections.
• Use of hand and power tools, cutting torches, and welding equipment.
• Order parts from approved vendors and drive company pickup/repair truck to pick up parts.
• Operate fixed and mobile equipment.
• May assist in the maintenance and repair of fixed equipment.
• Adhere to all CEMEX and OSHA rules and regulations.
• Wear safety equipmentand meet safety standards.
• Coordinate with Terminal Management and Transport Fleet Maintenance Management to determine priorities.
• Monitor shop inventory, tools, and equipment, alertingto challenges and collaborating on effective solutions.
• Assist in training new hires on job requirements, tools, equipment, processes, systems and safety culture.

• Experience & Education: High school diploma or equivalent (Preferred) with at least 3 years of relevant experience.
• Tools and Equipment: Must have own tools up to 1 ".
• Language Proficiency: Bilingual is a plus; must be able to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
• Professionalism: Demonstrates a professional demeanor with established company and business acumen.
• Leadership: Willingness to lead by example and motivate teammates.

WORKING CONDITIONS

• Safety First: Must wear proper protective equipment (PPE) while in the shop and on plant grounds.
• Dynamic Environment: Frequent exposure to extreme conditions such as heat and noise, along with potential hazards associated with working on heavy machinery.

Physical Requirements

Requires significant physical activity, including walking, sitting, lifting, pushing, pulling, and climbing.

• Ability to exert 50-100 pounds of force occasionally.
• Ability to exert 25-50 pounds of force frequently.
• Ability to exert 10-20 pounds of force continuously.
• Must be able to perform all job functions, including, but not limited to, pushing, turning, and pulling controls
