The Missouri Department of Corrections is seeking Correctional Officers at qualified facilities in Missouri. The position includes a $1,500 new hire stipend for eligible full-time officers and a $0.75/hour medium-security differential, with hourly pay listed at 21.45.

• Maintains security in buildings/towers/other posts of an adult correctional facility; intervenes during emergencies or altercations and gains physical control of offenders.
• Supervises movement of offenders inside/outside the correctional facility; conducts periodic counts of offenders; searches offenders and their living quarters for contraband; Escorts/transports offenders to predetermined locations.
• Supervises offenders: in housing units; during the performance of work activities; during recreational/religious activities.
• Conducts inspections for health and safety hazards; prepares/submits reports on offender violations of divisional or correctional facility rules/unusual offender behaviors/observed mechanical deficiencies/security breaches or failures.
• Discusses minor adjustment problems with offenders; refers serious problems to proper correctional facility staff; promotes rehabilitation by attempting to modify offender’s social attitudes/discouraging undesirable behaviors/encouraging worthwhile activities.
• Supervises visits with offenders; searches visitors/offenders/buildings/grounds for contraband.
• Performs work in accordance with established rules/regulations/post orders/specific instructions; receives general administrative direction.
• Performs other related work as assigned.

Job Summary - Why you’ll love this position

A $1,500.00 one-time new hire stipend for all newly hired, full-time Correctional Officer positions at qualifying facilities. eligible team members will be paid this stipend on their first scheduled paycheck after employment, contingent upon achieving all requirements associated with the assignment as outlined in the New Hire Training Stipend Agreement which includes, but not limited to, completion of a Peer-to-Peer training certification during the first week of employment.

The annual salary listed for this position includes the additional $0.75 per hour medium security differential ($1,560 annually) for all full-time positions domiciled in a medium-security institution.

Hourly Pay: $21.45 (medium security differential included)

Responsibilities - What you’ll do

Minimum Qualifications:

Must be 18 years of age or older.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

1. Ability to pass a background investigation administered by the Missouri Department of Corrections.
2. Ability to complete Defensive Tactics and Standard First Aid\CPR training during Basic Training administered by the Missouri Department of Corrections.

By assignment, a position may require:

1. Ability to complete and maintain firearms certification training administered by the Missouri Department of Corrections.
2. Possession of a valid vehicle operator's license.

Job Details - More reasons to love this position

Contingent upon your position, you may also be eligible to receive:

• A $2.00 per hour shift differential if you are assigned to a shift that begins on or between 12:00pm (noon) and 5:00am and are employed at a 24/7 congregate care facility (i.e. institution, transition center, supervision center, or command center).
• A $1.00 per hour restrictive housing differential if you are assigned a regular post within a restrict housing/segregation unit at any facility.

The Department of Corrections currently offers a guaranteed 1% pay increase for every two years of continuous service up to 20 years! If you are transferring from another State of Missouri agency and are receiving state retention pay, please be advised that the Missouri Department of Corrections administers retention based upon your retention anniversary date. As a result, your retention pay upon transfer may differ from what you were receiving at your previous agency until you reach your applicable retention anniversary date.
