Job summary

California Fresh Market in Solvang, CA is seeking a Meat & Seafood department team member to ensure quality, display products attractively, and assist customers with their requests. You will handle receiving, merchandising, customer service, and daily department tasks while maintaining safety, cleanliness, and compliance with health standards.

Responsibilities

• Receiving: Check the load against the invoice for proper billing, report overages and shortages, inspect products for quality, rotate stock, and code dates.
• Department Maintenance: Coordinate storage, keep shrinkage logs, keep meat areas clean and meeting health standards, perform temperature checks.
• Merchandising: Plan and maintain attractive displays, ensure replenishment and rotation, maintain in-store signage.
• Customer Service: Assist customers with meat questions, manage special orders, respond to feedback, greet and assist customers promptly.
• Other Responsibilities: Perform tasks assigned by management, maintain logs and safety materials, assist across departments as needed, require basic math and safe handling of products.

Receiving

• Check the load against the invoice for proper billing.
• Report overages and shortages, report to the Meat Department manager
• Inspect all products for quality and condition. Identify products that are not acceptable, report to the Meat Department manager
• Put load away in designated storage area, while maintaining proper rotation and cleanliness.
• Code date all product to assist in proper rotation.

Department Maintenance

• Coordinate storage of items to be returned to suppliers. See that unsellable items are properly disposed of. Keep accurate shrinkage logs.
• Ensure that meat shelves, displays, aisles, prep & storage areas are in clean, orderly conditions, meeting all health department standards.
• Ensure trash is removed; sales floor and prep areas are swept and mopped daily.
• Perform daily cooler & sales floor temperature checks
• Ensure freshness and quality through rotation of product throughout the department
• Maintain a cleaning log for the sales floor and meat retail area
• Cleans and sanitizes meat preparation areas, equipment, and fixtures with the manner and procedures established by the department and in accordance with all applicable health regulations.
• Monitors inventory of cleaning supplies and sanitizing chemicals, informing the Meat Manager when supplies are low according to the department standards

Merchandising

• Plan attractive meat displays, using color and texture to enhance.
• Ensure displays are replenished, rotated, culled daily.
• Ensure building and maintaining of in-store displays, according to established standards for appearance, variety and ease of shopping and stocking.
• Ensure accurate, up-to-date uniform department signs.

Customer Service

• Assist customers meat questions in prompt friendly manner.
• Assist customers with special orders and oversee special orders system in the department to ensure customers receive their orders.
• Respond to meat department customer suggestions, comments & complaints in a reasonable manner.
• Always make our customers know that they are important and special, assist in any other department as needed.
• Answer & route phone calls.
• Greets customers and provides them with prompt and courteous service and assistance as needed.

Other Responsibilities

• Perform other tasks assigned by management.
• Assist other customers in all departments, in prompt friendly courteous manger, referring them to other staff when necessary.
• Maintain department logs, cleaning schedules, safety materials, and inventory documents.
• Must have basic knowledge of math, weights, and measures.
• Have knowledge of Meat & Seafood products and ability to reference customer questions.
• Performs duties in a safe and efficient manner
• Participates in training activities to increase personal skill levels, and to improve overall department processes and customer service.
