Job Summary

The primary purpose of the MDS Coordinator role is to ensure proper Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement through the Patient Assessment Instrument (RAI) process. The coordinator supports quality patient care in compliance with federal and state standards, under the guidance of the Administrator or Director of Nursing.

Qualifications
  • Valid Texas nursing license (RN or LVN) required.
  • Preferably, at least 2 years of long-term care experience.
  • Completion of HHSC RUG Online Training for Nursing Facilities acknowledged.
  • Completion of AANAC RAI Certification within 1 year of employment.
  • Effective communication, delegation, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to interpret business documents, regulations, and medical documentation.
  • Proficient in report writing and presenting information to stakeholders.
Essential Functions
  • Ensure compliance with all Medicaid and Medicare regulations.
  • Assess pre-admission paperwork for medical necessity.
  • Participate in daily standup meetings.
  • Coordinate weekly reimbursement meetings with interdisciplinary teams.
  • Audit clinical records and educate staff on documentation standards.
  • Manage Medicare diagnoses and certifications for Part A patients.
  • Complete all required MDS assessments timely.
  • Monitor patient condition reports for changes.
  • Prepare for Medicaid audits and track patient benefit days.
  • Coordinate with financial management to ensure accurate billing.
  • Support patient safety and uphold care policies.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
