Job summary

Ross Manor, part of First Atlantic Healthcare, seeks an MDS Coordinator to lead resident assessments and ensure accuracy of the RAI process in line with state and federal rules. You report to the Director of Nursing and work with an integrated care team to optimize care planning.

Candidates should bring MDS and ICD-10 coding experience, Maine RN or LPN licensure, strong clinical assessment skills, and familiarity with Medicare/MaineCare regulations.

Qualifications

  • MDS coding experience and RAC-CT certification preferred.
  • Current, active Maine RN or Maine LPN licensure.
  • Strong clinical assessment, care planning, and delivery of care.
  • Experience with electronic medical records (EMR).
  • Knowledge of Medicare and MaineCare regulations and denials.
  • Ability to communicate with residents, families and interdisciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

  • Assess/Oversee resident assessments through the RAI process and ensure coding accuracy.
  • Review care plans regularly for accuracy and appropriateness.
  • Oversee/complete care plans, including nursing restorative plans.
  • Establish documentation approaches and instruct staff accordingly.
  • Communicate MDS due dates to ensure timely completion by the team.
  • Instruct disciplines in MDS procedures and CAAs and quality indicators.

MDS Coordinator

As part of a high-functioning leadership and care team, conduct and coordinate the development and completion of the resident assessment in accordance with the rules and regulations of State and federal government and the policies and goals of the facility. Reports to the Director of Nursing.

Essential Job Functions

  • Assess/Oversee assessment of all residents through the RAI process and ensure coding accuracy, capturing needs and level of assistance, in accordance with current rules, regulations, and guidelines
  • Review all care plans on a regular basis for accuracy, appropriateness, and case mix validity
  • Oversee and/or complete care plans for all residents process according to standard of nursing practice, including nursing restorative plans
  • Establish documentation approaches and instruct nursing and ancillary staff to document properly
  • Communicate MDS due date so that interdisciplinary team members complete their portions appropriately and on time.
  • Instruct all disciplines in proper procedures, completion of MDS items, and CAAs, Care Mix payment and Quality Indicators.
MDS Coordinator Minimum Qualifications
  • MDS and ICD-10 coding experience preferred & RAC-CT certification preferred
  • Current, active, Maine RN licensure or current active, Maine Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)
  • Strong nursing clinical assessment, care planning, and delivery of care skills, with a long term care population
Skills And Abilities
  • Working knowledge of geriatric health care needs
  • Clear and effective communication skills
  • Federal and State regulations pertaining to long term care and the resident assessment process
  • Medicare and MaineCare regulations, as well as the application of the State Operations Manual, and Principles of Reimbursement
  • MDS manual and updates; Quality Indicator System
  • Strong computer literacy. Experience with and ability to document within electronic medical records.
  • Work and communicate tactfully with residents, staff; administration, families, physicians, ancillary services, allied health care professionals, surveyors, regulators, other business contacts, the public and the community
  • Microsoft Office (Excel, Word)
