Job description

Overview

This position is open for external candidates only to apply. This is an opportunity to be part of the first new weapon system program in over 30 years. Q-20, W93/Mk7 Systems Development and Realization Group, defines, develops, and fields the warhead system for the newest Navy sub-launched ballistic missile weapon program. We support the DoD/Navy SSP and DoE/NNSA customers in defining the mission need and corresponding technical and programmatic requirements. The W93 collaborates closely with Sandia National Laboratories (SNL) and Lockheed Martin Space design agencies, developing the re-entry system, ensuring safe, secure, and reliable warhead performance and a relevant nuclear deterrent. Q-20 also incorporates the production agency teams (KCNSC, Pantex, SRS, Y-12, LANL, and SNL) tightly into the design, qualification, and realization processes.

This is an early-career opportunity for a Model-Based Systems Engineer (MBSE) to support the development and implementation of digital engineering capabilities across the W93/Mk7 development effort. The role involves working with multidisciplinary engineering teams to develop, maintain, and apply system models that support requirements management, architecture development, interface definition, design analysis, and system verification activities.

Responsibilities
  • Developing and maintaining SysML-based models that capture system requirements, behavior, structure, interfaces, and verification relationships.
  • Supporting systems engineering activities including requirements analysis, architecture development, interface management, and technical baseline development.
  • Applying MBSE methodologies and best practices to improve engineering rigor, traceability, and communication across stakeholders.
  • Collaborating with multidisciplinary engineering teams to collect, organize, and model technical information.
  • Generating model-based artifacts, technical documentation, diagrams, and reports to support engineering reviews and decision-making.
  • Supporting model verification, validation, consistency checks, and configuration management activities.
  • Exhibiting excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to work effectively on multidisciplinary teams.

  • Supporting systems engineering activities including requirements analysis, architecture development, interface management, and technical baseline development.
  • Applying MBSE methodologies and best practices to improve engineering rigor, traceability, and communication across stakeholders.
  • Collaborating with multidisciplinary engineering teams to collect, organize, and model technical information.
  • Generating model-based artifacts, technical documentation, diagrams, and reports to support engineering reviews and decision-making.
  • Supporting model verification, validation, consistency checks, and configuration management activities.

R&D Engineer 2 – Salary range $106,400 - $176,000

  • In addition to the above: demonstrated ability to independently develop and maintain complex system models supporting multiple stakeholders.
  • Experience establishing model structures, modeling conventions, and traceability strategies.
  • Experience integrating requirements, architecture, interfaces, and verification information within an MBSE environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze model data and communicate technical findings to engineering and management audiences.
