Job summary

DESCRIPTION

A CNC machinist works in our manufacturing department and must be able to produce machined parts by programming, setting up, and operating a computer numerical control (CNC) machinewith G&M code; maintaining quality and safety standards; keeping records; maintaining equipment and supplies. A CNC Machinist plans machining by studying work orders, blueprints, engineering plans, materials, specifications, reference planes, locations of surfaces, and machining parameters; interpreting geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T). A CNC Machinist provides quality inspection and finishing of parts to pass onto the next process.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Loads feed mechanism by lifting stock into position.
  • Verifies settings by measuring positions, first-run part, and sample workpieces; adhering to international standards.
  • Maintains specifications by observing drilling, grooving, and cutting, including turning, facing, knurling and thread chasing operations; taking measurements; detecting malfunctions; troubleshooting processes; adjusting and reprogramming controls; sharpening and replacing worn tools; adhering to quality assurance procedures and processes.
  • Maintains safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations.
  • Maintains equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs.
  • Maintains continuity among work shifts by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
  • Documents actions by completing production and quality logs.
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical publications.
  • Accomplishes organization goals by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
  • Other duties as assigned
Other Skills and Abilities
  • Select the appropriate tools, machines, and materials to be used in preparation of machinery work
  • Maintain industrial machines, applying knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures.
  • Observe and listen to operating machines or equipment in order to diagnose machine malfunctions and to determine need for adjustments or repairs
  • Check work pieces to ensure that they are properly lubricated and cooled.
  • Operate equipment to verify operational efficiency.
  • Clean and lubricate machines, tools, and equipment in order to remove grease, rust, stains, and foreign matter.

EDUCATION

High School diploma or Associates degree from an accredited community college or vocational school. Job related experience and/or training will be considered in lieu of post-secondary education
