Job summary

Sylvan Learning is seeking a Part-Time K-12 Math Tutor in Vacaville to help students build confidence and mastery in math, from basic concepts through Algebra II and Trigonometry. Instructors may teach elementary to high school levels based on experience and subject expertise.

The role emphasizes small group instruction, structured curriculum, and the ability to adapt explanations to each student’s needs. Training and materials are provided.

Qualifications

• Must have strong knowledge of mathematics and be able to explain steps clearly.
• Able to work with up to four students in a group setting.
• Experience working with children or teenagers.
• Reliable transportation to the Sylvan center.
• Ability to follow established curriculum and center procedures.
• Background-screening requirements per state and local law.
• Consistent availability during the required instructional hours.

Part-Time K-12 Math Tutor

Pay Range: $18-$20 per hour

Position Overview

Sylvan Learning is seeking an enthusiastic and academically strong Math Tutor to help students improve their mathematical understanding, problem-solving abilities, and confidence.

The Math Tutor may work with elementary, middle school, or high school students based on the instructor’s experience and subject expertise. Areas may include basic math, fractions, decimals, pre-algebra, Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, Trigonometry, and Precalculus. Knowledge of Statistics or Calculus is a plus.

Instructors may use Sylvan's structured, preplanned curriculum or assist students with classwork, homework, and test preparation.

Required Availability

Applicants must be available during the following instructional hours:

• Monday, Tuesday, Thursday: 3:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m.
• Wednesday: 2:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m.
• Friday: 3:00 p.m. -7:00 p.m.
• Saturday: 9:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m.

Actual scheduled shifts and weekly hours may vary based on enrollment, staffing needs, and student schedules.

Requirements

• Strong knowledge of the mathematics levels the applicant wishes to teach.
• Ability to solve problems accurately and explain each step clearly.
• Ability to work with up to three students completing different lessons.
• Strong communication, organization, and multitasking skills.
• Experience working with children or teenagers.
• Consistent availability during the required instructional hours.
• Reliable transportation to the assigned Sylvan center.
• Ability to follow established curriculum and center procedures.
• Ability to complete applicable background-screening requirements, consistent with state and local law.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree, teaching credential, current college enrollment, or relevant coursework in mathematics, engineering, science, education, or a related field.
• One to two years of teaching, tutoring, or classroom experience.
• Advanced subject knowledge for applicants teaching high school mathematics.
• Experience supporting students with different academic needs and learning styles.
