Job Title:

Formal Title: Mathnasium Instructor

Position Summary:

The Mathnasium Instructor is responsible for delivering mathematical instruction to students using the Mathnasium method. The Instructor is committed to providing exceptional customer service through an expert approach that is personal and prescriptive, attending to each individual student’s needs. The Instructor builds students’ confidence and self-esteem through successful encounters and interactions with carefully selected materials. The Instructor works as part of a team and operates in a Team Teaching environment where collaboration and communication ensure all student needs are addressed. The Mathnasium Instructor is the backbone of Mathnasium’s customer service by delivering exceptional math instruction for students.

Instructor Role:

  1. Teach through Mathnasium methodology and terminology, using prescribed teaching practices.
  2. Actively encourage, motivate, and engage with students during the instructional session.
  3. Evaluate and document student progress.
  4. Correct student work and provide positive constructive feedback.
  5. Maintain student attention and re-engage distracted students.
  6. Manage student behavior to create a positive environment that optimizes learning.
  7. Communicate student needs to center leadership and to instructional staff in a team-teaching environment.
  8. Assist in non-teaching tasks, which may include cleaning, administrative assistance, curriculum preparation, or other duties as assigned.

Instructor Characteristics:

Math Expert: Instructors must be passionate about math and have strong skills through Algebra I. Instructors who work with high school students must also excel in math through Algebra II, Trig, and higher math topics. Instructors must be willing to successfully complete training and apply new pedagogy to teach the Mathnasium Way.

Engaging: Instructors must interact well with students and be able to instruct students clearly and concisely. They should inspire students, establish a fun learning environment, and demonstrate enthusiasm for teaching math. Building strong relationships with students is essential to keep them engaged.

Facilitator: Instructors must move easily from one student to another, keep track of multiple lessons, evaluate and document progress, and provide constructive feedback using positive reinforcement techniques that bolster confidence in math.

Professional: Instructors must interact with parents, students, and co-workers in a friendly yet professional manner, establishing confidence and program value with families. They should serve as role models demonstrating the capabilities of math.

Tasks Performed:

  1. Teach mathematical concepts to students.
  2. Monitor student performance and assist in a learning center environment.
  3. Utilize multiple instruction methodologies such as team teaching.
  4. Respond to student questions, grade work, and address concerns.
  5. Provide positive reinforcement to encourage and motivate students.
  6. Monitor and manage student behavior.
  7. Be reliable and responsible in duties.
  8. Provide excellent customer service to parents and students.
  9. Grade and correct student assignments.
  10. Assign binder material during sessions.
  11. Work with team members to meet instructional needs.
  12. Assess personal performance and seek improvements.
  13. Interact ethically and professionally with customers.
  14. Enforce behavior rules and order among students.
  15. Adapt teaching methods to meet students' needs.
  16. Assist students with math homework.
  17. Manage students' time effectively.
  18. Participate in training sessions.
  19. Keep student binders organized.
  20. Combine information to improve teaching effectiveness.
  21. Listen actively to team members.
  22. Use computers and tablets for instruction.
  23. Assess students' progress throughout sessions.
  24. Check-in verbally with students at start and during sessions.
  25. Maintain cleanliness of center areas.
  26. Use manipulatives for teaching.
  27. Report to center leadership and team members.
  28. Communicate effectively with team members.
  29. Prepare students for future learning.
  30. Participate in parent meetings and conferences.
  31. Assist disabled students with accommodations.
  32. Provide private instruction as needed.
  33. Escort students to parents when sessions end.
