  • Monitor an effective learning environment free of hazard, ridicule, and prejudice.
  • Assist with student management in school facilities.
  • Coordinate parent/teacher and student/teacher conferences to review performance.
  • Perform attendance, classroom organization, and timely communications with parents and staff.
  • Comply with mandatory reporting requirements for child abuse and related issues.
  • Communicate with students, parents, and stakeholders clearly in writing and speaking.
  • Be accountable for student achievement and provide grades per school policy.
  • May plan and implement designated co-curricular activities and programs.

POSITION:Secondary (Math) Teachers

IMMEDIATESUPERVISOR:Principal

FLSA STATUS:Exempt

EMPLOYMENT TERM:Minimum 200 days annually, pursuant to WV Code§18-5-45; extended employment terms may be established by JCBOE

SALARY:Pursuant to WV Code §18A-4-2, in accordance with Jefferson County Teacher Salary Schedule, commensurate with verified years of experience relevant to position and education level

EVALUATION:Performancein this position will be evaluated by the building principal/immediate supervisor and in accordance with WV State Code §18A-2-12, WV State Board Policy 5310, and JCBOE Evaluation Policy

JOB SUMMARY:Provides appropriate instruction, learning activities, and experiences that ensure all students meet the learning objectives and standards for the appropriate content and grade level.

MAJOR POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Responsible for planning and implementing WV content standards and high-quality secondary learning objectives, instructing students using effective instructional strategies and providing appropriate learning experiences, with high expectations for all.
  • Responsible for implementing adopted and supplemental academic programs
  • Develop lesson plans and instructional materials and provide individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student.
  • Participate as a contributing member of the relevant, assigned department or program.
  • Keep appropriate records and prepare progress reports as assigned.
  • Analyzes data to improve instruction and models instructional strategies which promote student achievement.
  • Communicate with parents through a variety of means, including conferences, to discuss student progress and interpret academic program objectives and requirements
  • Provide learning experiences designed to meet individual needs through individual and/or group instruction.
  • Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in and out of the classroom by providing a safe and secure environment.
  • Maintains and monitors an effective learning environment free of hazard, ridicule and prejudice.
  • Assists with student management throughout the building, grounds and/or other JCS facilities.
  • Coordinates parent/teacher and student/teacher conferences to review student performance, behavior, and other issues.
  • Performs various administrative duties such as taking attendance, organizing the classroom, and responding to emails and phone calls from parents, school administrators, and staff in a timely manner.
  • Complies with all requirements for mandatory reporting of child abuse, illegal harassment, breaches of ethics, or any criminal activity of which the employee becomes aware.
  • Effectively communicates with students, parents, and other stakeholders via verbal and written communication
  • Be accountable for individual student achievement and provide grades in accordance with the school's grading policy and procedures.
