Job description

Northwest Yeshiva High School (NYHS), a coeducational, accredited Jewish high school serving grades 9–12, seeks a full-time High School Mathematics Teacher. Located on Mercer Island, NYHS offers a rigorous dual curriculum in a close-knit, mission-driven community where students are known, challenged, and supported.

About the Position

Northwest Yeshiva High School is seeking a full-time High School Mathematics teacher. The role of the Math Teacher is to foster a love for math and make learning accessible for all students. This position will include teaching math courses ranging between Algebra 1 through AP Calculus. The High School Math teacher should be a secondary education certified content area expert who inspires in students a love of math; one who brings learning to life with a focus on helping students understand the relevance of their learning to their lives; and one who is able to differentiate instruction to all students regardless of previous background knowledge or learning differences. Class sizes are small and range from 7-15 students. The Math Teacher reports to the Principal, but with the final jurisdiction of the Head of School.

Responsibilities
  • Teach 3 or 4 yearlong math courses ranging from Algebra 1 to AP Calculus
  • Collaborate with math faculty to develop math standards and curricula for the department
  • Provide consistent and frequent communication, verbally and in writing, with students and parents about the progress of each student. This includes Report Cards, phone calls, parent conferences, Schoology, email blasts, etc.
  • Provide skillful classroom management practices (routines and procedures) to ensure a safe, orderly, positive, enjoyable, and productive learning environment.
  • Use formative and summative assessment and documents student progress and achievement; assess and analyze student strengths and needs; design and implement appropriate instruction to facilitate learning and growth.
  • Work collaboratively in situations that may be time sensitive with a variety of individuals including students, parents, faculty and staff.
  • Uphold the philosophy, principles, policies, and procedures and represents NYHS positively in the school community and the wider community.
Requirements
Education & Experience
  • A bachelor’s degree or higher in math, secondary education, or a related discipline
  • Experience in math education at the secondary level
  • Secondary Math Teaching Certification required (may accept out of state valid certification)

  • Desire, interest, and enthusiasm for working with high school-aged students
  • A willingness to incorporate social-emotional learning (social awareness, relationship skills, self-awareness, self-management, responsible decision making) and project-based learning into the subject matter

  • Strong judgment & decision-making skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficient at working in a Google Drive environment and confident in learning new technology
  • Ability to work and communicate well with students, families, faculty, and staff within the community
Desired Additional Skills, Experience & Credentials
  • Knowledge of and/or experience teaching Economics, Statistics, Business Math, or other alternative math courses.
  • Prior experience teaching secondary math levels Algebra 1 to AP Calculus
