Prep Academy Tutors of Greater Columbus seeks experienced K–12 Math & Science tutors to provide personalized, in-home instruction in the Columbus area. The role suits current or former teachers who enjoy individualized tutoring outside a traditional classroom.

Tutors will deliver one-on-one Math and Science instruction, cover foundational topics, reinforce classroom learning, and adapt to each student’s needs. Travel to student homes across Columbus, OH, is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant field.
• Proven experience teaching or tutoring Math or Science to K–12 students.
• Strong subject knowledge in Math and/or Science.

Responsibilities

Position Overview

Prep Academy Tutors of Greater Columbus is looking for exceptional K–12 Math & Science Tutors who believe that the right instruction, delivered in the right environment, can make a lasting difference in a student's academic journey.

We are seeking experienced, certified teachers and highly qualified educators to provide personalized, one-on-one Math and Science tutoring to students in grades K–12 throughout the Columbus area. Our tutors work directly with students in their homes, creating focused learning environments where students can ask questions, build skills, strengthen confidence, and make meaningful academic progress.

This role is especially well suited for current or former classroom teachers who enjoy the individualized nature of tutoring and want the opportunity to work closely with students outside of a traditional classroom setting.

What You'll Do

As a K–12 Math & Science Tutor, you will:

• Deliver engaging, one-on-one Math and/or Science instruction to K–12 students in the student's home
• Provide support in mathematics, including foundational math, arithmetic, pre-algebra, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, calculus, statistics, and other areas within your expertise
• Provide support in science, including elementary science, life science, earth science, physical science, biology, chemistry, physics, and other areas within your expertise
• Reinforce classroom instruction and help students master challenging concepts
• Adapt lessons, activities, and instructional strategies to each student's individual learning needs and academic level
• Help students develop strong problem-solving, analytical, and critical-thinking skills
• Assist with homework, projects, class assignments, and test preparation
• Help students prepare for classroom assessments and standardized tests
• Identify areas of academic difficulty and develop targeted strategies for improvement
• Break down complex mathematical and scientific concepts into clear, understandable steps
• Help students develop effective study habits, organization, and academic independence
• Establish positive, professional relationships with students and their families
• Monitor student progress and communicate meaningful observations and updates
• Encourage students to take ownership of their learning and develop greater academic confidence
• Maintain a professional, supportive, and productive in-home learning environment
• Travel to students' homes throughout the Columbus, Ohio area

What We’re Looking For

We are looking for educators who bring strong subject knowledge, genuine teaching experience, and a passion for helping students succeed.

Ideal candidates will have:

• A bachelor's degree or higher
• A valid Ohio teaching license/certificate or equivalent teaching credential, preferably in Mathematics, Science, Elementary Education, or a related field
• Demonstrated classroom teaching experience
• Strong knowledge of at least one area of Math and/or Science
• Experience working with students in grades K–12
• The ability to adapt instruction for different learning styles, abilities, and academic levels
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Patience, professionalism, reliability, and a student-centered approach
• Excellent organization and time-management skills
• Reliable transportation and the ability to travel to student homes
• Authorization to work in the United States

Preferred Qualifications

Preference may be given to candidates who have:

• Current or recent experience as a certified Math, Science, Elementary, Middle School, or High School teacher
• Experience teaching Math or Science in a public, private, or charter school
• Experience working with students across multiple grade levels
• Experience supporting students who are struggling with foundational Math or Science concepts
• Experience teaching advanced, honors, AP, IB, or college-preparatory coursework
• Experience preparing students for standardized tests such as state assessments, ACT, SAT, or other academic examinations
• Strong expertise in Algebra, Geometry, Calculus, Statistics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, or other advanced subjects
• A master's degree or higher
• Experience providing private tutoring or individualized academic instruction

Schedule

Tutors have the flexibility to build a schedule around their existing professional and personal commitments. Student assignments and tutoring hours are based on family needs, tutor availability, subject expertise, grade-level experience, and geographic location.

Minimum Requirements

A successful candidate will have a bachelor's degree and meet at least one of the following criteria:

• Hold a valid Ohio teaching license/certificate or equivalent teaching credential
• Have current or recent experience as a certified classroom teacher
• Have at least two years of classroom teaching experience in a public, private, or charter school
• Have experience as a lecturer or course instructor at an accredited U.S. college or university
• Be a graduate student with relevant teaching or teaching-assistant experience at an accredited U.S. college or university

Candidates must also demonstrate strong knowledge of Math and/or Science and the ability to provide effective instruction to K–12 students.
