Humanex Academy | Englewood, Colorado

Salary: $49,000-$52,000 based on credentials and experience

Join Our Team

Humanex Academy is looking for an experienced educator who is excited to teach differently.

Humanex is an independent, strengths-based school serving neurodivergent students in grades 6–12. Our small class sizes of 4-8 students allow teachers to know their students deeply, individualize instruction, and build the relationships that make meaningful learning possible.

At Humanex, we believe the environment itself can be an intervention. Many of our students come from educational settings that were sensory overwhelming, socially overwhelming, or simply not designed for the way they learn. Our intentionally small, calmer, and more predictable environment gives students greater capacity to engage academically, build relationships, accept support, and practice skills that may have been difficult to access in previous settings.

Our students are bright, creative, complex learners whose strengths and needs do not always fit neatly into a traditional classroom. Students may have diagnoses including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), ADHD, anxiety, learning disabilities, and executive functioning challenges. Many are also twice exceptional (2e).

We believe students thrive when they feel known, respected, and that they belong. Our teachers balance strong relationships and empathy with clear expectations, helping students better understand themselves as learners and grow toward greater independence.

Who We're Looking For

We are seeking a Math & Elective Teacher with previous classroom teaching experience and a strong foundation in education and instructional practice.

The right candidate will already understand the fundamentals of effective teaching, including lesson planning, classroom systems, differentiation, assessment, communication, and student engagement. We provide coaching and support in adapting those skills to the unique needs of Humanex students and our strengths-based, neurodiversity-affirming approach.

The strongest candidates are calm, curious, flexible, organized, and relationship-driven educators who understand that engagement, regulation, executive functioning, and academic performance are interconnected. They can think on their feet, remain steady when students are struggling, and try a different approach when the first one isn't working.

The Teaching Role

This position currently teaches:

  • Algebra 1
  • Foundational Math
  • Consumer Math
  • Personal Finance
  • A science-based middle school elective

Our math courses serve students with varied learning profiles, confidence levels, and previous experiences with math. Candidates should have a strong math foundation and be comfortable differentiating instruction, breaking complex concepts into accessible steps, and helping students build both skills and confidence.

Small classes may include students working at different levels or needing different approaches within the same classroom. We are less interested in whether you teach math one particular way and more interested in whether you can help students understand themselves as math learners, develop effective strategies, build practical skills, and experience authentic success with challenging content.

The middle school elective provides an opportunity for creativity and hands-on learning, with flexibility to develop science-based content around student needs and the teacher's interests and expertise.

What Makes a Great Humanex Teacher

Successful Humanex teachers:

  • Have previous classroom teaching experience and a strong understanding of instructional practice.
  • Build authentic relationships while maintaining clear and consistent expectations.
  • Approach student behavior with curiosity rather than judgment.
  • Use calm, neutral communication when students are struggling.
  • Differentiate instruction without unnecessarily lowering expectations.
  • Recognize that avoidance, low output, or difficulty initiating work may require problem-solving around regulation, executive functioning, confidence, skills, or communication.
  • Are comfortable teaching mixed-grade and mixed-ability groups.
  • Develop engaging lessons and adapt when students need another way into the material.
  • Are organized and able to accurately track student progress, grades, assessment data, and required documentation.
  • Communicate effectively with students, families, colleagues, and outside providers.
  • Collaborate well while also making independent classroom decisions.
  • Are dependable, reflective, and open to feedback, coaching, and continued growth.
Our Approach

Humanex students are capable learners who benefit from individualized instruction, strong relationships, predictable structures, and explicit support with executive functioning, communication, self-advocacy, and social-emotional development.

Our smaller, less overwhelming environment isn't simply a benefit of the program; it is an intentional part of how we support student growth.

Rather than assuming students lack social skills, we recognize that some have had limited opportunities to successfully practice those skills in environments that felt manageable. Our small community gives students space to practice communication, self-advocacy, flexibility, problem-solving, and relationship skills through authentic interactions with peers and adults.

Our goal is not to remove challenge. It is to create an environment where challenge is manageable enough for students to engage with it, learn from it, and gradually build greater independence.

Humanex is not designed as an intensive therapeutic or behavioral placement and does not serve students requiring intensive one-on-one academic or behavioral support or students with a recent history of significant physical aggression or disruptive behavior within the school environment.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Previous classroom teaching experience
  • Knowledge of effective instructional practices, classroom management, differentiation, and assessment
  • Strong knowledge of the mathematics content required for this position
  • Strong communication, organization, and technology skills

Preferred:

  • Colorado teaching license
  • Degree or professional background in education
  • Special Education endorsement or experience
  • Experience teaching high school mathematics
  • Experience working with neurodivergent students, including students with autism, ADHD, executive functioning challenges, learning disabilities, and/or 2e profiles

Prior experience with neurodivergent learners is highly valued, but a strong, experienced educator who is curious, flexible, and eager to learn can grow into the Humanex approach with coaching and mentorship.

Why Teach at Humanex?

Teachers at Humanex have something increasingly rare in education: the time and space to truly know their students.

With classes of 4-8 students, teachers can individualize instruction, experiment with different approaches, and build meaningful relationships. Teachers have significant autonomy within a highly collaborative environment and are supported through professional development, consultation, and an administrative team that understands the complexity of working with neurodivergent students.

We want teachers to bring their own strengths, interests, creativity, and expertise. In return, we provide the coaching and support to learn what we sometimes call the "Humanex Way": seeing the whole student, leading with strengths, staying curious, and creating the conditions where students feel they belong and can grow.

Compensation & Benefits
  • $49,000-$52,000 starting salary based on credentials and experience
  • Comprehensive health and retirement benefits
  • Professional development opportunities
  • Small class sizes of 4-8 students
  • Collaborative support and significant teacher autonomy

Hours: Monday-Friday, 7:45 AM-4:00 PM. Teachers also participate in lunch supervision, arrival/dismissal, staff meetings, professional development, and occasional evening or weekend school events.
