Job summary

STgenetics is seeking a Maternity Worker at the Ohio Heifer Center to care for cows before and after calving and for newborn calves. You will support animal health through proper feeding, sanitation, and accurate recordkeeping in a demanding farm setting.

This role requires physical endurance, the ability to work independently, and a collaborative mindset to communicate with the maternity veterinarian and team.

Qualifications

  • Experience with livestock preferred but not required.
  • Knowledge of animal husbandry and basic livestock health practices preferred.
  • Ability to lift 50+ pounds and stand for extended periods.
  • Willingness to work a rotating schedule including weekends and night shifts.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor cows before, during, and after calving and provide care to newborn calves.
  • Feed and manage colostrum and milk replacer according to protocols.
  • Observe calves for signs of illness or injury and administer treatments as directed by the maternity veterinarian.
  • Maintain clean and sanitary barns, pens, stalls, bedding, and equipment to promote animal health.
  • Follow established protocols for calf health, feeding, ventilation, bedding, and biosecurity.
  • Operate and perform basic maintenance on farm equipment such as milk feeding equipment and cleaning systems.
  • Accurately record calving, health, treatment, and weight information using Farmfit.
  • Comply with safety procedures, animal welfare standards, and biosecurity practices.
  • Communicate effectively with team members to ensure continuity of animal care.

The Maternity Worker is responsible for the care and well-being of cows before and after calving and newborn calves at the ST Ohio Heifer Center. This role supports animal health through proper feeding, monitoring, sanitation, and accurate recordkeeping while maintaining a safe and efficient work environment. The position requires a dependable, self-motivated individual who can work independently in a physically demanding agricultural setting.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Monitor cows before, during, and after calving while providing appropriate care to newborn calves.
  • Feed and manage colostrum and milk replacer according to established protocols.
  • Observe calves for signs of illness or injury and administer treatments as directed by the maternity veterinarian.
  • Maintain clean and sanitary barns, pens, stalls, bedding, and equipment to promote animal health.
  • Follow established protocols for calf health, feeding, ventilation, bedding, and biosecurity.
  • Operate and perform basic maintenance on farm equipment, including milk feeding equipment, power washers, bottle and bucket cleaning systems, and skid steers.
  • Accurately record calving, health, treatment, and weight information usingFarmfit.
  • Comply withcompany safety procedures, animal welfare standards, and biosecurity practices.
  • Communicate effectively with team members to ensure continuity of animal care.
REQUIREMENTS
  • Previouslivestock experience, preferably working with calves, is preferred but notrequired.
  • Knowledge of animal husbandry and basic livestock health practices is preferred.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, andmaintaina positive, professional attitude.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to handle livestock patiently and humanely.
  • Ability to lift 50+ pounds, stand for extended periods, and perform physically demanding work.
  • Ability tooperateor learn tooperatefarm equipment.
  • Willingness toworka rotating schedule, including weekends and third shift (5:00 PM–5:00 AM).
