Whirlpool Corporation in Perrysburg, OH, is seeking a Materials Technician (Resin Processing) to manage end-to-end material flow from procurement to production line delivery. Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; minimum 3 years in materials management or logistics.
• Expert-level proficiency in inventory software (SAP, Fishbowl, NetSuite) and ERP systems.
• Experience with automated systems (robotics, PLC) is a plus.
• Ability to read and interpret complex part prints, mechanical drawings and schematics.
• Strong math skills for material calculations and auditing inventory counts.
• Basic leadership experience is preferred.

This role in summary

The Materials Technician (Resin Processing) is a critical technical role responsible for the end-to-end flow of materials, from procurement verification to delivery at the production line, while also driving operational excellence through Lean/WCM methodologies. This role is the technical expert for inventory control, internal/external auditing support, material movement logistics, and the troubleshooting of systems and machinery that support the material flow process.

Your responsibilities will include

• Materials Flow and Logistics: Arrange and accelerate the movement of equipment, parts, and assemblies between departments according to production priorities. Arrange the internal transfer of materials to meet departmental schedules, which includes physical transport, managing loading/unloading operations, and coordinating repair/assembly of specific parts.
• Inventory Control & Auditing: Maintain meticulous manual or computerized records (ERP/MRP) of inventory levels, work-in-process (WIP) status, and the physical location of all materials. This includes coordinating flow of commodities and parts to ensure an uninterrupted supply and actively working on Safety Stock optimization.
  • Validate SAP cycle count records and investigate out of tolerance issues and uncommitted/excess inventory.
  • Track and ensure adherence to internal and external inventory compliance metrics, and prepare data to support Finance and external auditing requirements.
• Production Planning & Quality Verification: Constantly monitor production schedules, confer with department heads to identify overdue materials or potential shortages, and requisition necessary materials.
  • Compute the precise amount of material required to complete specific job orders to minimize waste and stockouts.
  • Inspect delivered materials to ensure they conform to exact technical specifications and purchase orders.
• Operational Excellence (Lean/WCM): Actively lead, follow, and participate in all TPM, WCM, and lean activities.
  • Coach and train staff on Workplace Organization (WO) tools, such as 5S, and lead problem-solving initiatives using structured methodologies like 5 Whys and root cause analysis to eliminate inefficiencies and quality issues.
  • Develop package designs to meet specific requirements for the product's nature, transportation methods, cost, and legal compliance.
• Technical Operations & Maintenance Support: Perform machine setup and programming duties related to material processing, such as operating a computer-controlled laser machine to trim excess material.
  • Provide technical support, including troubleshooting hydraulic, pneumatic, and electromechanical systems related to material handling and processing equipment.

Minimum requirements

• Experience & Education: High school diploma or equivalent is required. Minimum 3 years of experience in materials management, logistics, or a related technical manufacturing field.
• Systems Proficiency: Expert-level proficiency in inventory management software (e.g., SAP, Fishbowl, or NetSuite) and ERP systems. Working knowledge of automated systems (robotics, PLC) is a plus.
• Technical Skills:
  • Ability to read and interpret complex part prints, mechanical drawings, and schematics.
  • Strong foundational math skills for calculating material requirements and auditing inventory counts.
  • Basic team leadership skills and experience preferred.
• WCM/Lean Knowledge: Strong understanding of WCM principles and tools (e.g., 5S, Kaizens, line balancing) with a proven track record in driving continuous improvement.
• Physical Requirements: Ability to frequently lift and/or move up to 35 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move heavier items with assistance.
  • Ability to move or transport materials across a facility, which may require operating material-handling equipment (e.g., pallet jacks or powered lift trucks).
