Position Overview
Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems seeks a Materials & Processes Engineer (Principal Materials & Processes Engineer – 2nd Shift) specializing in composite materials for airframe structures. The role is located in Iuka, MS and requires the candidate to work 2nd shift.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform root cause analysis of material failures and provide effective solutions to production composite issues.
- Generate test plans and reports.
- Analyze, research, design and develop materials and their related fabrication and application processes to optimize materials for engineering design of structures, systems and subsystems.
- Apply principles of chemistry, physics and material behavior to develop non‑metallic processing specifications, fabrication and assembly processes.
- Develop, analyze and apply material properties and design allowables, processing processes and quality engineering specifications.
- Conduct material analyses, including failure analysis of components, systems and subsystems, life predictions, and definition and requirement specifications.
- Review and approve subcontractor material processing procedures.
- Travel to subcontractor locations as required.
Qualifications
- Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Clearance prior to start.
- Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) Clearance.
- Experience with composite fabrication and design on aircraft.
- Experience with repair processes for composite materials used in aerospace structures.
- Principal M&P Engineer (level 3) requires a minimum of a BS in a STEM discipline with at least 5 years of experience, including a background in composite materials for airframe structures, OR a MS in a STEM discipline with at least 3 years of relevant experience.
- Alternatively, M&P Engineer (level 2) requires a minimum of a BS in a STEM discipline with at least 2 years of experience, including a background in composite materials for airframe structures.
- Ability to obtain and maintain all required clearances and perform the role on 2nd shift.

- Degree discipline in Materials Science or similar.

- Experience with military specifications and standards.
- Experience interfacing with a military customer.
Salary and Benefits
- Primary Level Salary Range: $75,100.00 – $112,700.00.
- Secondary Level Salary Range: $93,300.00 – $139,900.00.
- Employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, discretionary bonus, and in some cases, long‑term incentives.
