Qualifications

  • Ability to obtain and/or transfer and maintain the final adjudicated U.S. government Secret clearance and any program access(es) required for the position within a reasonable period of time.
  • Professional experience with metallics, sealants and/or coatings applied to structural components.
  • Professional experience with metal or composite fabrication and/or design.
  • Demonstrated experience with repair processes for metal or composite materials used in structures.

Responsibilities

  • Applies principles of chemistry, physics, and material behavior to develop non‑metallic processing specifications, fabrication and assembly processes or metallic processing specifications and associated assembly processes.
  • Develops, analyzes and applies material properties and design allowables, processing processes and quality engineering specifications.
  • Conducts material analyses, including failure analysis of components, systems and subsystems, life predictions, and definition and requirement specifications.
  • Performs drawing reviews to ensure M&P requirements are satisfied.
  • Reviews and approves subcontractor material processing procedures.
  • Travels to subcontractor locations as required.

Position Overview

Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for an experienced Materials & Processes (M&P) Engineer (Level 2) / Principal Materials & Processes (M&P) Engineer (Level 3) to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals within our Vehicle Engineering organization. This position will be located in Melbourne, FL. In this role you will join an Integrated Product Team to develop, qualify, and optimize metallics, sealants, and coating solutions for critical structural applications, performing root‑cause analysis and defining processing specifications. The ideal candidate brings extensive experience in material failure analysis, test‑plan generation, and the chemistry‑physics of coatings and metals, and thrives in a collaborative engineering environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Performs root cause analysis of material failures and provides effective solutions to production sealants & coatings issues or metallics issues.
  • Generates test plans & reports.

Basic Qualifications

    • Must have a Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM discipline and 5 years of related professional/military experience; or a Master’s Degree in a STEM discipline and 3 years of related professional/military experience; or a Ph.D. in a STEM discipline and 1 year of related professional/military experience.
    • Ability to obtain and/or transfer and maintain the final adjudicated U.S. government Secret clearance and any program access(es) required for the position within a reasonable period of time.
    • Professional experience with metallics, sealants and/or coatings applied to structural components.
    • Professional experience with metal or composite fabrication and/or design.
    • Demonstrated experience with repair processes for metal or composite materials used in structures.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Final adjudicated U.S. government Secret clearance.
  • Bachelor’s (or higher) degree in Materials Science, Materials Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
  • Experience with aircraft structures.
  • Experience with military specs and standards.
  • Experience interfacing with a military customer.

Salary and Benefits

Primary Level Salary Range: $79,300.00 – $118,900.00. Secondary Level Salary Range: $98,400.00 – $147,600.00. The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate’s experience, education, skills and current market conditions. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
