Job summary

Aerodyne Industries seeks an experienced Materials & Processes Engineer to support spaceflight hardware from design to qualification. You will advise on materials selection for IVA/EVA, corrosion prevention, electrical bonding, and process control for space environments.

You will review hardware, analyses, and flight acceptance testing, and help formulate verification plans while ensuring M&P requirements are incorporated into program specifications and drawings.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's in Engineering (Metallurgy, Materials Science, Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Systems).
  • 7+ years of related Materials and Processes work experience for spacecraft (preferred).
  • Knowledge in materials and processes for space applications and design for corrosion prevention.

Responsibilities

  • Advise on M&P requirements for IVA/EVA environments including materials selection and corrosion prevention.
  • Review hardware, analysis, and flight acceptance testing; assist in hazard reviews and verification.
  • Develop verification/validation plans and integrate M&P requirements into specs and drawings.
  • Assess vendor processes and provide recommendations for qualification and testing.
  • Provide inspection and manufacturing process support for human space flight systems.

We have an exciting opportunity for aMaterials & Processes Engineerto join the team with Aerodyne Industries, a teammate company.

TheMaterials & Processes Engineer will:

  • Advise, guide, and provide consultation on requirements for Materials & Processes (M&P) for intravehicular (IVA) and extravehicular (EVA) environments, including materials selection,process control and qualification, design for corrosion prevention, electrical bonding, flammability, toxic offgassing, and processes specification.
  • Assist in review and development of hardware, analysis, operation, hazard reviews, anomaly resolution, requirements verification, re-flight assessments, and flight acceptance testing.
  • Formulate presentations and present to program boards as appropriate.
  • Implement M&P system requirements into hardware design and develop verification and validation plans and statements.
  • Provide input to program/project specifications and ensure appropriate materials requirements are incorporated into all program/project specifications at the right level.
  • Review project/program documentation, specifications, and engineering drawings to ensure M&P requirements are met for spaceflight hardware.
  • Assess whether standard vendor processes meet requirements, and if not, clearly define changes that need to be implemented.
  • Provide vendors with recommendations for qualification and acceptance testing that will properly satisfy verification of requirements.
  • Provide inspection and manufacturing process support for human space flight system.
  • Other duties as required.
Requisition Qualifications:

  • Typically requires a bachelor's degree in Engineering and a minimum of 2-5 years of experience in the field or in a related area.
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Engineering (Metallurgy, Materials Science, Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Systems).
  • 7 or more years of related work experience in Materials and Processes.
  • Knowledge in materials and processes for space applications, including materials selection (metallics and nonmetallics), design for corrosion prevention andelectrical bonding,failure analysis, heat treatment, adhesive bonding, contamination control,etc.
  • Familiar with metallic and nonmetallic materials specifications, properties, testing.
  • Knowledge in engineering drawing review for materials and processes.
  • Overall background on M&P working knowledge for different systems: propulsion, crew compartments, environmental life support systems, thermal, and electronic systems.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills with the ability to critically assess manufacturing/material processes and designs.
  • Willingness to learn and coordinate across other disciplines is highly desired.
  • Ability to assess and prioritize tasks and identify potential technical risks.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and independently in a multidisciplinary field.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Requisition Preferences:
  • M.S.or Ph.D. in Engineering.
  • 10 ormore years of related Materials and Processes work experience for spacecraft.
  • Previous experience in material selection (metallics and nonmetallics) for electrical components, corrosion prevention, flammability prevention, oxygen compatibility, processes qualification,contamination control, development, test, and evaluation for NASA and/or aerospace projects.
  • Previous experience in directing, guiding, and coordinating a technical team is highly desirable.
  • Previous experience with human space flight system engineering and integration practices.
