Job summary

Sundt, a 100% employee-owned contractor, seeks a Material Manager to oversee receiving, storage, tracking, and distribution of project materials and equipment. You will coordinate with procurement and field leadership to align material flow with schedules, quality standards, and safety requirements.

You will supervise material handling teams, implement management systems, and drive process improvements to reduce waste and delays while ensuring compliance with safety policies and project specs.

Qualifications

  • Experience with material management or inventory tracking software.
  • Familiarity with equipment maintenance and preventive maintenance programs preferred.
  • High school diploma or equivalent; Associate's or Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years in warehouse, logistics, or construction material management with supervisory experience.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Proven leadership and team management skills.
  • Strong knowledge of inventory control systems, logistics coordination, and material handling practices.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Understanding of construction processes, material specs, and project scheduling.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with procurement, vendors, and project leadership to forecast material needs and schedule deliveries.
  • Maintain accurate inventory records and track OS&D materials.
  • Direct distribution of materials and equipment to field operations according to project schedules.
  • Implement and manage material management software systems with accurate reporting.
  • Oversee receipt, inspection, and documentation of all incoming materials.
  • Ensure preventive maintenance programs are executed for assigned equipment.
  • Identify opportunities to improve material handling, logistics, and inventory processes.
  • Promote a safety culture and ensure compliance with policies and OSHA requirements.
  • Ensure proper storage and preservation of materials and equipment.
  • Supervise, train, and mentor warehouse staff and material handlers.

Job Summary

Performs active support of project field operations by managing the receiving, storage, tracking, and distribution of materials and equipment. Responsible for overseeing all material management functions to ensure
alignment with project schedules, quality standards, and safety requirements. This role includes supervising material handling teams, coordinating with procurement and field leadership, and ensuring efficient and accurate material flow throughout the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Coordination & Planning - Collaborate with procurement teams, vendors, and project leadership to forecast material needs, schedule deliveries, and ensure readiness for project demands.
2. Inventory Control - Maintain accurate inventory records, including tracking Over, Short, and Damaged (OS&D) materials, and ensure discrepancies are documented and communicated to appropriate stakeholders.
3. Material Distribution - Coordinate and manage the timely distribution of materials and equipment to field operations in alignment with project schedules and construction sequencing.
4. Material Management Systems - Implement and manage project-approved material management software systems, ensuring all tracking, reporting, and documentation are accurate and up to date.
5. Material Receiving & Inspection - Oversee the receipt, inspection, and documentation of all incoming materials and equipment, ensuring accuracy and compliance with project specifications.
6. Preventive Maintenance Oversight - Ensure preventive maintenance (PM) programs are executed for all assigned equipment, maintaining operational readiness and compliance with warranty requirements.
7. Process Improvement - Identify opportunities to improve material handling, logistics, and inventory processes to increase efficiency and reduce waste or delays.
8. Safety & Compliance - Ensure all material management activities comply with company safety policies, OSHA regulations, and project-specific requirements. Promote a strong safety culture across all operations.
9. Storage & Preservation - Ensure all materials and equipment are stored, handled, and preserved in accordance with manufacturer guidelines and project requirements to prevent damage or loss.
10. Team Leadership & Development - Supervise, train, and mentor warehouse and material handling personnel, fostering a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Minimum Job Requirements:

1. Experience working with material management or inventory tracking software systems.
2. Familiarity with equipment maintenance practices and preventive maintenance programs preferred.
3. High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree preferred.
4. Minimum 5 years of experience in warehouse, logistics, or construction material management, including supervisory experience; or verifiable experience as a Material Manager.
5. Proficient use of Microsoft Office Suite programs.
6. Proven leadership and team management skills.
7. Strong knowledge of inventory control systems, logistics coordination, and material handling practices.
8. Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
9. Understanding of construction processes, material specifications, and project scheduling.

Physical Requirements:

1. May stoop, kneel, or bend, on an occasional basis.
2. Must be able to comply with all safety standards and procedures.
3. Required to use hands to grasp, lift, handle, carry or feel objects on a frequent basis.
4. Will interact with people and technology frequently during a shift/workday.
5. Will lift, push or pull objects up to 50Ibs on an occasional basis.
6. Will sit, stand or walk short distances for up to the entire duration of a shift/workday.
7. Will use telephone, computer system, email, and other electronic devices on a frequent basis to communicate with internal and external customers or vendors.
