Job summary

AMETEK is seeking a Materials Manager to direct all material and supply chain activities, including purchasing, inventory control, production planning, scheduling, warehouse, shipping and customer delivery support. This role reports to the Plant Manager.

You will lead purchasing, material planning, cost control, supplier negotiations, and KPI reporting; develop cost-saving initiatives, ensure ERP/MRP execution (Oracle preferred), and mentor the materials team.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business or related discipline with 5 years of supply chain/materials management experience.
  • Strong analytical mindset and metric-driven approach.
  • Experience using AI tools to improve productivity and reduce costs.
  • Proven leadership in Purchasing or Materials.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Understanding of BOMs and make/buy processes.
  • Experience in negotiation and cost proposals.
  • Ability to convey information clearly, orally and in writing.
  • Knowledge of ERP/MRP systems; Oracle is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Manage all Materials/Supply Chain functions: material planning and control, shipping, inventory and sourcing of future supply chain opportunities.
  • Apply principles and standards for material management with knowledge of industry and company practices.
  • Develop a purchasing model to analyze and track historical costs and reduce future spending.
  • Analyze changes or issues in materials to reduce costs and improve quality.
  • Prepare monthly management reports to track major expense categories.
  • Interface with third-party vendors to minimize costs of goods and services.
  • Develop third-party supplier agreements such as vendor managed inventory.
  • Assist with budgeting/forecasting with focus on cost efficiency and streamlined operations.
  • Manage department goals to align with company objectives.
  • Directly supervise materials team, including interviewing, hiring, training, and performance management.

Job description

The Materials Manager must have proven experience in directing and coordinating the effectiveness of all material/supply chain management activities for the business including purchasing, inventory control, production control, scheduling, planning, warehouse, shipping and customer delivery support.

This position reports directly to the Plant Manager.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manages all functional areas in Materials/Supply Chain, such as material planning and control, shipping, inventory and sourcing of future supply chain opportunities.
  • Must understand and apply principles, concepts, practices and standards for material management with a full and competent knowledge of industry and company practices.
  • Develop a purchasing model for our organization and related support functions that can be used to analyze and track historical costs as well as reduce future spending.
  • Analyze changes or new issues in materials and supplies to find ways to reduce costs and improve quality.
  • Prepare a monthly set of management reports to track and control major expense categories
  • Interface with third-party vendors to minimize and control cost of goods and services.
  • Develop third-party supplier agreements such as vendor managed inventory and other arrangements as required by the business.
  • Assist with departmental budget/forecast preparation with a constant focus on streamlining costs and improving efficiencies.
  • Manage the setting and achievement of department goals and objectives to align with overall company goals.
  • Directly supervises employees on the materials team. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Minimum Requirements
  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Business or related discipline is highly desired with 5 years of supply chain/materials management experience.
  • Must be very analytical and metric focused.
  • Demonstrated ability and willingness to use AI tools to improve productivity, decision-marking, work quality, and to reduce costs. The successful candidate must be able to identify appropriate AI use cases and critically evaluate AI-generated outputs.
  • Proven leadership and management experience in Purchasing or Materials.
  • Must have demonstrated skills in the areas of problem solving/reasoning, communication, leadership and ability to operate at a level that meets the scope and impact required for the team and company.
  • Must understand the process flow for fabricated and purchased parts.
  • Must thoroughly understand Engineering and Manufacturing Bills of Material and be capable of performing requirements analysis and reconciliation of both make and buy components.
  • Experience must include negotiation and bid and cost proposal experience.
  • Must have the ability to clearly convey information orally and in writing.
  • Knowledge of ERP/MRP systems. Experience with Oracle a plus.
  • Critical skill sets include the ability to collaborate cross-functionally, build consensus, shape/influence opinion and develop and articulate the future state.
  • Lean, Six Sigma, Continuous Improvement Methodologies desired.
