Job summary

Ingersoll Rand in Charlotte, NC is seeking a Materials Manager to lead a 12-15 person team and drive end-to-end materials planning, sourcing, and inventory strategies across a complex manufacturing operation. You will own supplier performance, implement Lean Six Sigma practices, and partner across functions to ensure on-time delivery and continuous improvement.

You bring 5+ years in manufacturing with lean/MRP, plus 3+ years in leadership, and a track record of solving complex materials

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain, Engineering, or related field.
• 5+ years in manufacturing with lean, MRP, and supplier relationships.
• 3+ years in managerial experience standardizing planning & execution.
• 2+ years experience in operations, inventory management, MRP and lean processes.
• 1+ years experience with visual management systems.

Responsibilities

• Lead all site materials management: scheduling, purchasing, inventory, movement, and supplier performance.
• Drive end-to-end material fulfillment from planning to warehousing and shipment.
• Implement, sustain, and ensure compliance with Materials and SIOP standard work, processes, and systems.
• Manage materials, suppliers, and inventory within a Lean Six Sigma environment, leveraging MRP.
• Monitor key materials and supplier performance, identify gaps and root causes, implement countermeasures.
• Lead, develop, and organize a team of 12-15 Material Planners/Buyers, including performance management.
• Partner cross-functionally with Sourcing, Engineering, Accounting, Marketing, Operations, Quality, and Global Procurement.
• Strengthen supplier relationships and foster a culture of problem solving, accountability, Daily Management, and continuous improvement.

Job Overview:

Ready to lead where materials strategy directly impacts customers, operations, and results? As Materials Manager, you will lead an experienced team of Buyer-Planners responsible for purchasing, materials planning, inventory, supplier performance, and aftermarket kit readiness within a complex manufacturing operation. Your leadership will help ensure the right materials are in the right place at the right time-supporting both legacy and next-generation compressor products.

This is more than a scheduling role. You will be the go-to leader when materials issues get difficult-supplier delays, held orders, inventory concerns, source changes, planning gaps, or cross-functional breakdowns. You will dig into root causes, drive solutions, build sustainable processes, and empower your team to prevent issues from recurring. You will also own key materials priorities including inventory performance, on-time delivery, supplier past dues, labor productivity, and continuous improvement, while partnering across Sourcing, Quality, Engineering, Operations, Order Management, and Customer Service. With an Oracle-to-SAP transition ahead, you will have a meaningful opportunity to shape processes, strengthen performance, and lead the team through significant operational change.

• Lead all site materials management activities, including production scheduling, purchasing, inventory control, material movement, indirect materials, and supplier performance.
• Drive end-to-end material fulfillment from production planning and procurement through warehousing and product shipment.
• Implement, sustain, and ensure compliance with Materials and SIOP standard work, processes, and systems.
• Manage materials, suppliers, and inventory within a Lean Six Sigma manufacturing environment, leveraging MRP to improve flow, availability, and inventory performance.
• Monitor key materials and supplier performance, identify gaps and root causes, and implement countermeasures that deliver measurable, sustainable improvement.
• Lead, develop, and organize a team of 12-15 Material Planners/Buyers, including performance management, workload allocation, coaching, succession planning, and professional development.
• Partner cross-functionally with Sourcing, Engineering, Accounting, Marketing, Operations, Quality, and Global Procurement to support business priorities, supplier selection, and strategic goals.
• Strengthen supplier relationships and foster a culture of problem solving, accountability, Daily Management, and continuous improvement across the materials organization.

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain, Engineering, or another relevant discipline.
• 5+ years of experience in the integrated functions of a manufacturing environment that has embraced lean concepts, MRP manufacturing practices, and progressive supplier relationships.
• 3+ years in managerial experience focusing on standardizing planning & execution, reducing sourcing complexity, and talent development.
• 2+ years experience in operations, inventory management, MRP and lean manufacturing processes.
• 1+ years experience with visual management systems.
