Job summary

Blasch Precision Ceramics, Inc. seeks a Materials Laboratory Technician to perform ceramic materials experiments and quality control testing in the product development laboratory and process development areas. You will assist in inventory tasks under the supervision of the Materials Engineering Manager.

The role requires hands-on lab work with scales, kilns, and computer data entry, and offers solid benefits. Open to motivated individuals with high school education and STEM interest.

Qualifications

  • Minimum: high school education or equivalent
  • Associates or Bachelors Degree in a STEM field or equivalent experience
  • Experience with laboratory safety and PPE is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Conduct scientific experiments under defined conditions
  • Accurately complete material property measurements
  • Document and report information by maintaining periodic logs and equipment record books
  • Support equipment operation by following operating instructions, maintaining supplies, and performing preventive maintenance
  • Enter data pertaining to incoming and in-use materials in databases

Job Title: Materials Laboratory Technician

Classification: Non-exempt

Reports to: Materials Engineering Manager

Wage Range: $20 24/hour

Company Description

Blasch Precision Ceramics, Inc., produces and markets net shape ceramic and refractory components to a wide variety of industrial markets worldwide. These industries include specialty alloys, non-ferrous metals, chemical/petrochemical processing, power generation, industrial process heating and mining.

The patented Blasch Process is a unique, proprietary forming method developed to produce net shape and near net shape ceramic parts exhibiting very attractive physical properties. Many of the products produced by Blasch have complex shapes that could not be produced with other existing ceramic technology. As a result, several patents exist covering Blaschs unique processes and technology.

Position Overview

Perform ceramic materials experiments and quality control testing in product development laboratory and process development areas, and assist in inventory organizational tasks under the supervision and direction of the Materials Engineering Manager.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Conduct scientific experiments under defined conditions
  • Accurately complete material property measurements
  • Document and report information by maintaining periodic logs and equipment record books
  • Support equipment operation by following operating instructions, maintaining supplies, and performing preventive maintenance
  • Enter data pertaining to incoming and in-use materials in databases
  • Troubleshoot equipment failures
  • Sustain laboratory cleanliness
  • All other tasks as assigned by the manager

Skills
  • Experience using physical measuring equipment (e.g. scales, rulers, thermometers)
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office, and SQL database systems
  • Excellent technical verbal and written communication skills
  • Familiarity with safety regulations and proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • Ability to work with potentially dangerous substances (flammability, chemical and health hazards) effectively, minimizing possibility of a hazardous incident occurring
  • Capable of working autonomously

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional lab environment. This role routinely makes use of lab equipment such as weighing scales, digital gauges, electric kilns, industrial mixers, vacuum pumps, and other lab-based equipment.

This role will additionally make use of standard office equipment such as laptop computers and smart phones.

This job operates in a professional lab environment. This role routinely uses lab equipment such as computers, electronic measuring devices, electric kilns, industrial mixers, vibrating tables, other lab instruments, as well as office equipment such as laptop computers, and phones.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. However, in some instances this job may require work in areas where ear protection is necessary.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee frequently is required to sit. The employee frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. The manufacturing plant is open 24 x 7; Sunday Friday. Typical office hours are Monday through Friday; 8 hours/day, typically 8:00 am 5:00 pm.
