Job summary

Carley Foundry, Inc. seeks a Materials Lab Supervisor to lead daily materials testing operations in our aluminum foundry. You will supervise staff, ensure accurate lab results, and support production by maintaining compliant, efficient testing processes.

You’ll oversee OES, tensile testing, Brinell hardness, metallography, and sand tests while coordinating with Quality, Engineering, and Operations. A strong safety mindset and documentation discipline are essential.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• At least 3 years of relevant materials testing or foundry experience.
• Hands-on experience with OES, room-temperature tensile testing, Brinell hardness testing, sand testing, and metallography.
• Knowledge of aluminum casting alloys and how chemistry, heat treatment, and casting conditions affect material properties.
• Ability to interpret test procedures and specifications, maintain accurate records, and communicate technical findings.
• Working knowledge of calibration controls, internal audits, and laboratory quality systems.

Responsibilities

• Lead daily laboratory operations, assign work, set priorities, and coordinate staffing to meet deadlines.
• Train, coach, and assess employees on testing methods, equipment, documentation, and safety; maintain training records.
• Oversee room-temperature tensile testing, OES, Brinell hardness testing, metallography, and sand testing.
• Evaluate results based on aluminum alloys, casting processes, heat treatment, microstructure, and mechanical properties.
• Review data for accuracy and trends; escalate out-of-spec results.
• Maintain testing procedures, sample identification, product traceability, and records.
• Coordinate proficiency testing, equipment calibration, audits, and corrective actions.
• Collaborate across departments to resolve material concerns and improve testing efficiency.
