Job summary

Salinas Valley Health is seeking a Decontamination Technician to support the Operating Room and hospital departments. You will decontaminate, process, and sterilize instruments, transport equipment, and assist with inventory and par levels.

The role uses Steris, autoclaves, and related systems in a dynamic hospital setting. Experience in sterile processing is preferred; high school education or GED is required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; medical terminology desired.
• Experience in surgical or sterile processing preferred.
• Ability to follow decontamination and sterilization procedures.

Responsibilities

• Decontaminate, process, and sterilize supplies and instruments for all hospital departments.
• Transport and deliver equipment between floors, departments, and patient rooms.
• Operate Steris, autoclaves and related sterilization systems per procedure.
• Verify packaging integrity and lot dates; support inventory par levels.
• Assist with orientation and par level controls; maintain a clean work area.

This position is responsible for pulling surgical cases, providing service and support functions to the Operating Room, SRMC, and other departments of the Hospital as assigned.Transports and delivers equipment between floors, departments and patient rooms.Works in the Decontamination Room per procedure.Applies appropriate cleaning/disinfection techniques and sterilization procedures for all equipment, instrumentation, devices, and technology that are processed through the department.Works with hazardous chemicals and contaminated waste.Stocks all inventory items to par levels and all specialty carts throughout the hospital.Checks sterile package for integrity and for manufactures out dates.Uses machinery such as Steris, Sterad, Autoclaves, ETO Sterilizer, and Airclean Cidex system.Uses computer Preference Cards to pull cases for Surgery and SRMC.Receives loaner equipment and instrumentation from vendors per procedure and verifies that sets are complete. Organizes return of decontaminated inventory to vendor.Verifies correct data to facilitate accurate charging and crediting of patient accounts.Wraps sterile trays and items for processing after inspection and assembly.Assembles and disassembles basic traction configurations.Performs other duties as assigned. This includes, but is not limited to, orientation of new personnel, par level inventory controls, keeping a clean work environment, and special projects as assigned.Education: Work requires knowledge generally acquired through a high school education or GED. Medical terminology desired.Licensure: None.Experience: Previous experience within a surgical or sterile processing environment preferred.The hourly rate for this position is $30.80 - $34.12.
