Job summary

CNH Industrial is seeking a Materials Engineering Laboratory Technician to support materials engineers by operating lab equipment, generating test data, and preparing samples for metallurgical and material testing. You will help maintain calibration and PM for equipment while ensuring safety and documentation standards are met.

The role requires an Associate’s degree and at least 6 years of lab or shop experience with metal cutting saws and basic equipment.

Responsibilities

Job Purpose

As a Materials Engineering Laboratory Technician, you will work with materials engineers to provide support with day-to-day activities; operate laboratory equipment, generate test data, analyze samples to specifications, and write laboratory reports to support metals, paint, plastic, and elastomer projects. As a team member you will be responsible for maintaining lab equipment, to support calibration and PM for equipment.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain all laboratory equipment related to materials engineering while supporting uninterrupted, safe, and reliable laboratory operations.
• Support projects by preparing samples, performing testing, gathering data, and documenting results to assist materials engineers with technical solutions.
• Responsible for operating cutting saws to section parts into workable pieces for further evaluation.
• Responsible for preparing metallurgical samples by sectioning, mounting, and polishing for further detailed metallurgical evaluation.
• Use microscopes and related software to capture images and use macro/micro hardness testers to support metallurgical analysis and check heat-treated parts to drawing requirements.
• Responsible for weldment sectioning, evaluation, and measurement to check conformance to weld assembly drawings.
• Follow Material Test Methods, standard operating procedures, and documented processes to assist engineers in sample preparation, testing, and data collection related to paint, painted plastic, plastic, elastomer, decal, adhesive, and other materials.
• Use FTIR, DSC, TGA, and related laboratory equipment under engineering guidance to generate data for detailed material investigation, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis.
• Collect, evaluate, and summarize laboratory and test data into simple reports used by materials engineering teams to support design changes, process improvements, test specification updates, product quality improvements, reliability, and design integrity.
• Responsible for creating and maintaining company color master labels on panels and checking accelerated weathering panels for color and gloss changes.
• Responsible to load and remove test samples from equipment related to environmental testing for plastic, elastomer, decals, and paint.
• Responsible for uninterrupted working of environmental test equipment, including ensuring tank levels for salt solution and measuring and mixing salt solution as needed for standard tests.
• Responsible for writing simple laboratory reports for routine and non-routine lab testing based on provided report templates and engineering direction.
• Responsible for keeping the lab clean and organized and following and contributing to lab safety procedures.
• Responsible for keeping track of laboratory consumables and ordering as necessary.
• Responsible for routine maintenance and calibration of test equipment following ISO9001 procedures, and for escalating non-routine equipment or test issues as appropriate.

Experience Required

• Associate’s degree in relevant discipline.
• A minimum of 6 years of experience in lab or shop environment working with metal cutting saws and operating basic equipment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Good computer skills. Knowledge about Microsoft office, including working with outlook and SharePoint.
• Good communication (oral and written) and teamwork skills.

Pay Transparency

The annual salary for this role is $57,725 - $85,445 plus any applicable bonus (Actual salaries will vary and will be based on various factors, such as skill, experience and qualification for the role.)
For roles open across multiple locations, the salary range indicated refers to the primary location. If a different location is considered, the applicable salary range will be communicated to candidates prior to the first interview.
