Position Summary

Researches, analyzes, designs, and tests component parts, processes, or systems to develop new and/or improve core products. Develops and recommends solutions for technical project assignments using fundamental principles of mechanical, electrical, packaging, or other engineering disciplines.

Essential Functions

• Maintains and conducts materials investigations within the Materials Control Lab for production lot approvals, special process approvals and materials and engineering investigations that support product or process engineering functions. Metallographic sample preparation, review and report generation. A portion of the responsibility includes metallurgical laboratory hands on work.
• Performs feasibility and trade studies applying standard materials engineering analytical methods; recommends solutions which are defined and reviewed for implementation.
• Interprets and validates test results for accuracy and precision. Ensures conformance to product qualification procedures and parameters to achieve customer and product reliability and safety standards. May utilize and interpret predictive models to simulate and verify design concepts
• Provides technical information for review with product engineering teams using established materials engineering practices, standards, and documentation methods (e.g. structured design process; customer design reviews). Writes supporting documentation for procedures and technical reports; may assist in writing technical proposals for customers.
• Contributes to the completion milestones associated with specific projects (e.g. create functional diagrams and system layouts; review detailed drawings and schematics; define data structure, interfaces and programming logic; analyze material requirements; research customer data item requirements).
• Reviews product specifications to ensure clarity, completeness, form, fit, function, and conformity to standards and procedures. Identifies design errors, omissions, and other deficiencies, and recommends revisions, engineering change orders, and improvements to engineering management or the project team.
• Maintains current level of professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing technical publications and/or participating in professional associations.
• Shares specialized knowledge with others. Assists in mentoring new employees. May represent the company on specific projects or engineering tasks.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree (BS) (or Professional Engineer (PE) certificate) in a materials or similar engineering or science technical discipline. Professional entry level position. May have limited prior industry experience or have worked with direction in student internship programs.
• Fundamental knowledge of engineering domain principles, concepts, and techniques.
• General knowledge of industry products, customers, and related legal/regulatory requirements.
• Fundamental knowledge of and use of basic engineering design and analysis tools (e.g. computer-aided design programs). Learns and utilizes specialized engineering databases; may require programming skills.
• Develops familiarity with products and customer specifications and standards applicable to assigned product line or system.
• Ability to communicate status of technical tasks and actions taken with clarity and precision.
• Ability to work with general direction and instruction regarding the scope of assignments; determines the priority and order of assignments; and applies judgment in selecting procedures and techniques.
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical journals and reports. Ability to present findings and information in both formal meetings and informally within and across Parker teams.
