Job summary

United States Digital Space LLC is building Starlink's satellite manufacturing capability and seeks a Materials Engineer to own consumables for ingot, wafer, and solar cell production lines.

You will drive material qualification, supplier development, and collaboration with process, quality, and production teams, ensuring specifications and acceptance criteria are met. Willingness to travel up to 25% and work extended hours as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in materials science, chemical engineering, or a STEM field.
  • 1+ years of experience in materials engineering, materials selection, process materials, or manufacturing materials support.
  • Familiarity with materials characterization techniques (SEM-EDS, XRD, FTIR, optical microscopy, etc.).
  • Experience with material qualification, supplier development, or transitioning materials from development into production.

Responsibilities

  • Own consumable materials used across ingot, wafer, and/or solar cell manufacturing lines—from sourcing to qualification and hand-off to production.
  • Partner with supply chain to identify, evaluate, and qualify suppliers for critical process materials.
  • Define material requirements, specifications, and acceptance criteria with cross-functional teams.
  • Plan and execute material qualification campaigns, including characterization and production-readiness assessments.
  • Communicate status, risks, and recommendations clearly to cross-functional partners and leadership.
  • Champion safety and quality in all materials handling, testing, and production support activities.
