Job Description

Analytical Mechanics Associates (AMA) is seeking a part‑time Senior Materials Engineer to support NASA Langley Research Center in Hampton, VA. The hourly rate for this part‑time position is $47–$62 commensurate with education and experience. The successful applicant will support the characterization, analysis, databasing, and validation of continuous fiber reinforced ceramic matrix composite properties required for design of refractory composite hot structures with application to reusable hypersonic vehicles.

Responsibilities
  • Support analysis of structural, damage tolerance, long‑term safety, and life predictions properties of refractory composites.
  • Develop an efficient database for organization, graphing, and tabulating refractory composite material properties.
  • Proliferate refractory composite hot structure materials through validation testing to demonstrate feasibility in new applications.
  • Communicate team results through generation of manuscripts, charts, and presentations.
Requirements
  • PhD with a focus on ceramic matrix composites (CMCs) is required.
  • Industry experience transitioning CMCs into commercial service, including coordinating testing, manufacturing, and design requirements is essential.
  • Experience in failure analysis is a plus.
  • U.S. citizenship or permanent residence required.
