About the Role

Type One Energy seeks a highly skilled and experienced Materials Engineer with general metallurgical experience, including materials testing and characterization. Ideally the candidate will have experience with fusion‑relevant materials and their challenges. In this role you will support the materials program across various components and systems by executing testing and characterization campaigns for specialty fusion materials, assisting in material selection and lifetime evaluations, and collaborating with internal engineering teams and external vendors.

Responsibilities

• Plan and execute materials testing and characterization campaigns on specialty fusion materials.
• Perform analysis on test and characterization results to generate campaign outcome reports.
• Perform literature reviews to help direct materials development efforts and lifetime estimations.
• Assist in vendor and external collaborator engagements and evaluations for specialty fusion materials.
• Prepare technical reports, presentations, and/or publications to disseminate research findings both internally and externally.
• Work closely with a multidisciplinary team of scientists, engineers, and technicians to foster a collaborative environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree with 2–3 years of experience or a master's degree and 1–2 years of experience in Materials Science, Nuclear Engineering, or a similar field.
• In‑depth knowledge of metallurgy, including microstructures‑property relationships, processing techniques, and failure mechanisms.
• Experience planning and executing materials testing and characterization campaigns.
• Familiarity with fusion‑relevant structural and armor materials and their environments.
• Ability to write clear and concise technical reports.
• Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot complex issues and propose innovative solutions.
• Attention to detail in experimental work and data analysis.
